  ARSENE WENGER wanted to boss Barcelona - but was forced to stay at Arsenal.

  Former Barca president Joan Gaspart claims both Frenchman Wenger and England boss Fabio Capello fancied moving to the Nou Camp in 2001.

  Gaspart declared: "When Llorenc Serra Ferrer left we negotiated with Arsene Wenger and Fabio Capello to coach Barca.

  "I met Wenger in Paris. He wanted to come to Barca but Arsenal didn't let him. The Arsenal chairman ordered him to fulfil his contract."

  The Gunners went on to win their second Double under Wenger in the 2001-02 season.

  Gaspart added: "Capello also wanted to come, but Roma didn't let him."
