Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe is confident the club will go further in the Champions League this season than fierce rivals Arsenal.
Spurs managed a top-four finish last term, enabling them to compete in Europe’s premier club competition and Defoe believes they can achieve more than the Gunners in the tournament.
“If we can get past the play-off qualifier, I honestly think we will go further in the Champions League than Arsenal,” he said.
“No disrespect to Arsenal, because they have a good record in the Champions League and for them it’s become part of the furniture, part of their regular season, it’s the norm.
“But I can’t wait to experience the buzz around White Hart Lane on European nights, the place will be absolutely rocking.
“I do believe, if we can make that first step, that we will be contenders. We’ve got the squad, younger players like Gareth Bale have come on a bundle since we were last in Europe, and the gaffer would love to show what he can do as a manager in Europe.
“Harry was the top English manager in the Premier League last season, and there’s no reason why he can’t be successful in the Champions League.”
LOL i guess he can only say this once in a lifetime. so feel free to say while you all still can. :D maybe after next 2 weeks i will see u crying on the pitch :D. Always behind our shadows haha
The Chelsea striker, who won the title at Stamford Bridge last term, has tipped Harry Redknapp's team to upset the traditional balance of power at the top of the table.
Ex-Arsenal star Anelka, 31, insisted: "I rate Spurs very highly. They are absolute favourites to win the title."
Anelka was impressed by the way Tottenham shot out of the starting blocks last season, beating Liverpool at home on the first day before never dropping out of the top six.
And while the Frenchman reckons the usual suspects will be in the mix for honours, he insists Champions League glory has become the No 1 priority at Stamford Bridge.
He added: "Our aim this season is to finally win the Champions League.
"Could we win a treble, the way Inter Milan did last season? Not so fast - it will be a tough job just to defend our league title.
"Our biggest rivals will of course be Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, while Manchester City could play a major role.
"But I believe that this will be the most thrilling season ever in the history of the Premier League."
-.-
impossible...
the most ..3rd placing.
1 of the favourites lah... not back Spurs to win...
Anyway if Spurs manages to stay in top 4, I think its good enough... last season Spurs did not even have Europa, right?
I will like to see how the players cope with domestic and european games. The players sure will get shag.
