Real Madrid's Mesut Oezil Offer Rejected By Werder Bremen
Things are moving quickly in Germany...
All eyes were on the pitch for Real Madrid's friendly at Bayern Munich on Friday night, but Blancos' sporting director Jorge Valdano spent the evening busily chasing Werder Bremen starlet Mesut Oezil.
The young Germany international impressed during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, with a host of European clubs - not least Madrid - now chasing his signature.
Indeed, Valdano told the microphones of ZDF during half-time in Munich that Madrid's interest in Oezil was now a serious matter.
"Yes, we have made an offer for him," he said.
However, Werder Bremen's sporting director Klaus Allofs quickly dismissed talk of an imminent move to the Santiago Bernabeu, hinting that the offer was too low.
"It's not worth a negotiation," he said.
Valdano stated yesterday that Rea; Madrid's summer spending spree is not yet over, despite their having spent a combined €63m on talents such as Ricardo Carvalho, Angel Di Maria, and Oezil's international teammate Sami Khedira
Meanwhile Oezil has publicly stated that he's yet to speak to any other club about his future, amidst reports that Barcelona had agreed a fee for the player (strenuously denied in Germany) and that Manchester United are looking to make an offer of their own.
Jose Mourinho said after the Real Madrid match that he hopes that Real Madrid maintain a challenge for Oezil.
"He's a very good player, and I'd be very happy if he came to us," he said.
"His coach said no, but we'll see what happens next. It would be great if he came to us."
It is thought that it will need at least €25m to convince Werder to part with one of their top talents, even though he will be out of contract come next June.
