Emmanuel Adebayor has stunned Manchester City by declaring his desire to leave the club before the end of the current transfer window.
The Togo international only moved to Eastlands last summer from Arsenal and despite an impressive debut season has found himself benched in the first two Premier League fixtures of the current campaign.
Real Madrid are reportedly interested in the player who has seen competition for places increased by the arrival of Mario Balotelli and the resurgence of form of Jo. City's one-up-top formation has also limited Adebayor's chances.
Out of favour: Emmanuel Adebayor says he wants to leave Manchester City
'If you're in a team and you're not playing, and there is a team that comes in for me, then I will definitely be on my way out because I’m a footballer and I love playing,' he said this morning in an interview with talkSport.
'So if I don’t have a chance to play here there will [be] a lot of chance to play somewhere else. If they force you out then you always have to follow your destiny.'
Adebayor's will-he-won't-he transfer saga from Arsenal two summers ago severely damaged his relationship the Emirates crowd and his latest outburst is likely to do the same for City fans.
Goodbye: Adebayor earned a first start of the season against FC Timisoara
Italian giants Juventus, who City face in the Europa League, and AC Milan stated an interest in buying the £25m man in 2008 and both are currently seeking striking reinforcements. Milan are in negotiations with Barcelona hitman Zlatan Ibrahimovic while Juve are desperately pursuing Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko.
Adebayor added: 'The season is going to be very long and very difficult for myself. I'm a footballer and have to keep going and not give up. I need to keep fighting for myself and enjoying my football.'
i'm not surprised..
he's overrated and he thinks he's god's gift to football
