The Rennes ace, 24, was a guest in the director's box at Anfield last night as the Reds lost 1-0 to Wolves.
Marveaux is rated at around £1.5million and has been likened to Chelsea star Florent Malouda.
He can play in any position in midfield but is likely to feature on the wing for Liverpool, who are short of wide men.
Central midfielder Raul Meireles was forced to play in an unnatural position on the right against Wolves.
Despite an injury-plagued start to his career, Marveaux has developed into one of the finest talents in France.
And new Kop director of football strategy Damien Comolli has identified him as a potential signing as he looks to shake-up the Reds' struggling squad.
Liverpool have made Ashley Young their top target for the January transfer window and are confident they can land the Aston Villa winger, Goal.com UK can reveal.
The Reds face stern competition from Manchester United and Tottenham for the England international, who will cost around £14 million as his contract at Villa Park runs out in 18 months' time.
Manager Roy Hodgson has been driving the interest from Anfield as he looks to add British talent to the squad but Damien Comolli, the club's director of football strategy, also supports the move for a player who will add much-needed pace to the side.
Liverpool are ready to meet Young's wage demands of £75,000-a-week – or £3.9m a year – and will make an official approach to Villa when the transfer window opens. Insiders at Anfield claim the club are confident the former Watford man is keen on a move and they believe Villa may feel compelled to sell because of his contract situation.
Young, 25, currently earns £65,000-a-week but has refused to sign a new deal at the Midlands club and there have been suggestions that he would be prepared to run down his contract and leave for nothing in the summer of 2012.
funny, people like comolli, do they upstage the manager? Can imagine if fergie has someone like him?
Fergie has David Gill in charge of all transfer dealings... It's just how they work together that matters...
after watching liverpool fall to blackpool, that frenchie could have gotten worried
Worse is, Roy signs a few more players in Jan and then gets the sack a few weeks later.
What will happen to all these new players when a new manager comes in?
Will he start changing the whole team again and claim (like Roy) so and so was not signed by him? ![]()
Sit down protest: Eljero Elia could be on his way to Liverpool after falling out of favour at Hamburg
Liverpool's American owners are set to back under-fire boss Roy Hodgson in the transfer market, starting with the signing of Dutch winger Eljero Elia from Bundesliga side Hamburg.
The 23-year-old wide man has fallen out of favour with his current employers after failing to hit the heights of his debut campaign in Germany following a 2009 move from Steve McClaren's FC Twente.
His slump in form has led to reports he would make the switch to Wolfsburg, currently managed by McClaren, in a bid rekindle the form that earned him rave reviews in Holland.
However Hamburg daily newspaper Morgenpost has suggested today that Liverpool have made a bid in the region of £13million for a player who has previously been compared with current Anfield man Ryan Babel.
With Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard both suffering with injuries over the course of the current campaign, Hodgson's team have struggled for a spark and often appeared one paced.
Elia would certainly rectify that and it is understood that Liverpool are keen to tie up a deal quickly in a bid to maintain momentum from the last-gasp weekend win over Bolton.
The 23-year-old has, according to German press, already agreed personal terms with Liverpool. Elia has made 10 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring twice. He was a member of Holland's World Cup squad, coming on as a 71st-minute substitute in the final for Dirk Kuyt.
erm Elia?
scared he kena like Babel again
Elia reminds me of Balotelli, in terms of looks and temperament. I doubt Hodgson can handle him given the fact that he already criticised Cole and Johnson publicly while under immense pressure.
And I thought Liverpool is still in need of a strike partner for Torres? Surely Hodgson cant be serious about making Torres-Ngog partnership his preferred choice?!
hodgson should just play babel instead of n'gog. he has more pace and physical strength, give him a chance
Forget about players, should replace the manager first. But am sure they are working behind the scene to replace Roy, for sure.
