Charlton have confirmed the signing of China captain Zheng Zhi on loan for the rest of the season.
The transfer of the Shandong midfielder comes with a view to a permanent switch for a player who was twice voted his country's footballer of the year in 2003 and 2006.
Zheng, 26, first caught the eye of The Addicks during a two-day trial at the end of November where he impressed former head coach Les Reed.
The Addicks confirmed on their official website: "Zheng will return to England over the weekend and link up with Charlton next week after the opening of the January transfer window."
Zheng is the first signing of the Alan Pardew era at Charlton and he could soon be joined by a second new face, with Steven Pressley poised to decide his future within the next 24 hours.
