  Your PSP should already come with the latest firmware. And it should not be a problem mod-ing the PSP firmware after you upgrade. Sony is coming out with a new generation which cannot modify the firmware anymore and you have to change the hard ware.

  My PSP Slim doesn't come with the latest firmware, it came with v3.60...
  If I upgrade to the latest firmware, v3.72, can I still flash to the custom firmware without pandora battery?

  i doubt so, the highest firmware version downgradable without a pandora battery is v3.50 iirc. why don't you search on google for the more established forums rather than waiting to be spoon fed?
