Arsene Wenger lamented his side's inability to take their chances as Arsenal crashed out of the UEFA Champions League after a 1-1 draw with PSV Eindhoven at Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal dominated both games against their Dutch counterparts but a 1-0 first leg defeat in Holland proved costly as again, in the capital, Wenger's players spurned a host of opportunities.
And to add to their troubles, Thierry Henry limped off at the final whistle, with Wenger confirming his star striker had sustained a fresh groin injury and could face a lengthy absence.
Wenger said: "Thierry has torn his groin and a stomach muscle and he will be scanned tomorrow. It's sad for him. It has been a difficult season for Thierry.
"He wasnÂ’t ready to play, thatÂ’s why he didnÂ’t start."
Wenger conceded he is bitterly disappointed to crash out of Europe following a pair of games that saw his side in control for large spells, without finding the killer touch in front of goal.
The French tactician believes there is nothing more to say other than to urge his charges to make sure they are in the competition next season, by securing a top four finish in the Premiership.
"Of course, tonight, it's a very big disappointment because we wanted to go through," said Wenger.
"What is important for us is not to feel we cannot fight for the rest of the season because we are not guaranteed a place next season.
"Tonight we can only think we played the game we wanted to play but we didn't take our chances. It's cruel.
"You feel let down when the effort is not there but we played well and the players gave absolutely everything.
"You have to congratulate the other team but sometimes it is cruel. They have done very well, defended very well.
"A player like Alex kept them in the game all night and then he scored that goal.
"For 90 minutes we were the dominating team but tactically they were intelligent."

The captains of both Arsenal and Chelsea are on bad luck this year. Next would be Liverpool's and United's. Joking la!
