THE KALLANG WAVE, the story of Singapore told through the dreams and struggles of the nationÂ’s past and present footballers, will premiere at CathayÂ’s The Picturehouse on 25 March 2007.
The documentary-film, directed by Yanfeng Lee and Hanafi Ramdan and produced with main sponsorship from Singapore Discovery Centre, is the only local production featured in Happy 1st Anniversary, CathayÂ’s film festival celebrating good independent movies and documentaries from around the world.
From interviews and match footage to history and coverage of significant events, THE KALLANG WAVE aims to give a voice to the people behind the scenes, the unsung heroes of SingaporeÂ’s football legacy, whom after years of tearful effort, now find their values and achievements abandoned by the new generation of Singaporeans.
“When news of plans to tear down the National Stadium in 2007 was announced four years ago, we looked into the possibility of documenting the story of the stadium,” said Co-Director Yanfeng Lee.
“However, our research into the legacy and history of the stadium unravelled a far more passionate, timely and compelling story – the challenges faced by local football leagues and the national team.”
Catch THE KALLANG WAVE, a film about passion, pride, identity, priorities, and a society coming to grips with its place in a cold and unfamiliar new world.
Tickets will be available at The Picturehouse Box Office at The Cathay, 2 Handy Road, Singapore 229233, or by phone booking at 6235 1155. For more information, please log on to http://www.thepicturehouse.com.sg/.
