Emmanuel Adebayor admits Arsenal have not prepared adequately for games against the Premiership's smaller clubs.
The Gunners have enjoyed some good results against the top three this year as well as local rivals Tottenham, but have struggled for consistency against other sides in the division.
And Adebayor believes the problem comes from the team's mental approach.
"When we know we are playing against Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool or Tottenham, we prepare differently," he told The Guardian.
"Our problem is that, when we are playing Everton, Middlesbrough or Fulham, we don't have the same preparation or mentality as Chelsea.
"We have to be motivated even more for games like Fulham than against Chelsea.
"If we play like we did against Manchester for matches with Fulham or Everton, we will win the game 3-0 or 4-0."
Arsenal's season collapsed within the space of a week and a half earlier this year when they lost the Carling Cup final and were eliminated from the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
But, despite the disappointment, Adebayor is keen to focus on the positives.
"It's been a difficult season because we are going to finish without winning anything, but we have a young team with lots of talent.
"Cesc Fabregas: amazing footballer. Denilson: amazing footballer. This season we have learnt a lot and we are going to put what we have learnt into improving next time."
Adebayor has the utmost respect for Arsene Wenger, and believes the Frenchman can help him to become one of the greatest players in the country.
"I think he is amazing. He told me when I improve in front of goal I can be one of the best players in England."
