Arsene Wenger is reportedly set to have a £14million release clause inserted into a four-year deal which Arsenal are set to offer him.
The French coach's current contract will expire next summer and the Gunners are keen to tie him down to a longer term stay amid fears he could depart the club for pastures new. However with Wenger dragging his feet on putting pen-to-paper on the £3.5million-a-year contract, Arsenal are now set to insert a release clause which means he could leave for free at the end of any season if he chooses.
It is hoped he will then sign the contract and quell the rumoured unrest at the Emirates Stadium which has been brewing up by Wenger's reluctance to pledge his future to the north Londoners and Thierry Henry's £16million departure to Barcelona.
An Arsenal source is quoted in the News of the World as saying: "Arsene is the life and soul of this club. He has been offered a new deal but will be allowed to leave for nothing at the end of every season if he chooses."
