ARSENE WENGER expects Robin van Persie to be ArsenalÂ’s No 1 strike star this season.
The Gunners boss says he is happy with his whole frontline — but rates Van as the main man.
The Dutch ace, 23, scored twice in Thursday’s 3-0 friendly win over Turkish side Genclerbirligi but has not been prolific since his £2.75million move from Feyenoord in 2004.
Yet Wenger claims the youngster is a mix between Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp and predicts Van Persie will be a massive hit.
Wenger said: “Robin can score goals. He’s a good mixture between Dennis Bergkamp, a typical goalscorer and a tremendous player like Henry. So let’s hope he can mix his game well.
“I think he is developing very, very well. He has become more mature and he benefits from the good work of Emmanuel Adebayor, who makes room for him.
“The two always combine well together. We have also signed Eduardo da Silva. Why should we sign another striker?
"We don’t collect them — we buy the strikers we need. And we expect Nicklas Bendtner to move forward and show us some aspects of his talent this season too.”
Brazil-born Croat Eduardo, the £10million buy from Dinamo Zagreb, was full of praise for his new team-mates.
He declared: “This squad is very good. And Robin van Persie has particularly impressed me.”
Emirates top brass are refusing to bow to pressure from American tycoon Stan Kroenke — and will refuse to discuss any sale of shares until April at the EARLIEST.
Billionaire Kroenke wants to boost his 12.2 per cent stake.
His attempts to buy the club have already led to the resignation of former vice-chairman David Dein.
He still has a 14.5 per cent holding in the North London giants.
So Kroenke may try to persuade Dein to sell to him. That would give the American more than 26 per cent — just a few per cent short of triggering an official takeover offer.
