Togo ace to miss season opener
Arsenal have confirmed that Emmanuel Adebayor will miss the start of the Premier League season.
The Togolese striker picked up a groin problem during The Gunners' pre-season training camp in Austria.
The 23-year-old is not due to return to training until next week, which means he is highly unlikely to feature on the opening day of the new season against Fulham.
Out of Fulham game"Adebayor has a groin problem," Gunners chief Arsene Wenger told the club's website.
"He missed the Emirates Cup and will miss the Ajax Tournament.
"At best he will be back next week. We hope he can come back in to normal training on Tuesday and Wednesday.
"But I think he will miss the start of the Premiership."
One player hoping to replace Adebayor is Nicklas Bendtner, who is looking to make a big impact this season.
"Everyone wants to fight for their place, and I am the same. I am going to
fight and try to get as much games as possible," said the 19-year-old.
"I will take things as they come. We have a lot of players, a strong squad and
it is up to the boss who plays.
"I will keep my head down and keep working hard. It is my first year in the
Premier League and I am looking to improve and show what I can do.
"I will let other people judge the way I play.
"I have been at Arsenal for two years before I came back. I know all the
players and I know how Arsenal play.
"I will play as well as I can and take my chances.
"As a striker it is important to score goals.
"I have got two so far, which is good - but the team is improving and we are
winning games, which is what matters."
