The Parasitic Phorid Fly is a nightmare to ants. About the size of a pinhead, this fly is now being used to control fire ants in the US.
The fly is the worst enemy of the ants as it uses ants in the goriest of ways. It uses the head of ants as incubators for its young.
That's right... THE HEAD!
The fly hovers over a panic-strickened nest of ants bombarding the ants. The fly hits the ants with the precision of a fighter and lays an egg into the head of each ant.
The process paralyses the ant and the egg hatches, eating the inside of the head. Once the fly matures, it breaks out of the now empty head.
As stated, the flies are now being used in the US to control the fire ant infestation but the flies will do that to almost any ant which is big enough to nourish the parasitic larvae.
