KLANG: A “Gang 21” leader linked to a spate of criminal activities in the district is in police custody.
OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Rodwan Mohd Yusof said the 35-year-old suspect was nabbed when a police patrol car cornered his vehicle in Kapar at 11pm on Saturday.
“We believe he has been involved in many criminal activities including rioting, causing injury and criminal intimidation.
“He had been detained twice at Simpang Renggam and is also on the police wanted list for a robbery in Kapar last year,” he said yesterday.
Initial police investigations also revealed that the suspectÂ’s gang members were involved in several rampages in Jalan Mengkuang, Teluk Pulai, over the past two weeks, with at least 10 vehicles damaged.
It is believed that the rampages were to extort protection money from residents.
However, the arrest of the suspect did not see an end to the incidents, with two more vehicles damaged on Sunday.
And yesterday, at least 10 gang members confronted a 32-year-old man and his wife with hammers before fleeing on motorcycles.
A resident there said the gang members had also been seen with samurai swords.
The Star reported on Sunday that residents in the area feared for their safety as thugs had been terrorising the neighbourhood. In one incident, a Molotov cocktail was hurled at a car.
