maybe play some fun games to stimulate their interests?Originally posted by rainee:just finished a class...how to deal with students who do not get the meaning of a word and want to refer to dictionary each time?
When I said it is more important to be able to guess the meaning of the word from context, he sniggered and said he doesnt like to guess, he wans to be sure
no time to play games in this class, they need to do their test which have already taken up nearly 2 hours, I only have 1 hour left to discuss hte answers and also check it with themOriginally posted by Ah Cek:maybe play some fun games to stimulate their interests?

I choose F. xDOriginally posted by rainee:Just interested to know. Here are some options to get the ball rolling:
a) Teachers who are very stern and strict about discipline. If you don't hand in homework on the deadline, some harsh punishment is awaiting you
b) Teachers who are lenient and forgiving. Bad thing is that students tend to take advantage of this type of teachers
c) Teachers who are friendly and students can see them as their own friends. Again the bad thing is students tend to take advantage again
d) Teachers who teach by giving a lot of practice (rote-learning). Might help to boost the passing rate, but bad news is the students will most probably have tonnes of homework
e) Teachers who encourage creativity and think that they are only facilitators. Means a lot of group work, and minimum guidance from the teachers during classtime.
f) Others (describe them, I am really interested to know, it will probably help me now and in the future)
just make sure that one of those "guessing-meaning" questions go on the exam. then he'll learn.Originally posted by rainee:just finished a class...how to deal with students who do not get the meaning of a word and want to refer to dictionary each time?

I also try to stimulate discussion, I have tried to incorporate presentations and debate session during my tutorial class. I think the students enjoyed those quite a lot, but I can't include them in my every lesson So those are only included once in a while...Originally posted by da-cheese-freakk:I choose F. xD
mmm.
F) Teachers who encourage discussions/debates as a whole class. The teacher tries to steer the conversation in a certain way to allow students to see what she's/he's trying to explain/express, and yet she/he allows students to come to their own conclusion about a topic.
however, I have teachers who fall under catagory D, but I love them a LOT, 'cause it's evident that, though they're giving us tons of hwk, they're trying to help us get better. and if you actually MANAGE to make it through that pile of hwk, you will improve by a considerable amount.
I like teachers who obviously love us, but cant get pushed around.
Do you feel the sense of achievement after when you have impart knowledge to them, and they thank you in return?Originally posted by rainee:I also try to stimulate discussion, I have tried to incorporate presentations and debate session during my tutorial class. Haha yea, now after the exams my students are thankful I gave them a lot of past year exam questions to do, as they came out again in their exams this year
treat them as a friend inside class.Originally posted by rainee:I would say one of the hardest things for teachers is to know the boundary between being a friend and a teacher. Esp if you have students around your age.
If you treat them like a friend, very hard to win their respect.
yup definitely...Originally posted by Darkness_hacker99:Do you feel the sense of achievement after when you have impart knowledge to them, and they thank you in return?
