One day, a son asks his dad "Daddy, would you like to run a marathon
with me?". The father says "yes".
And they run their first marathon together.

His son doesn't understand what troubles is for the dad. I pity the dad. He should think more for himself and the son.
If he dropped dead who is going to take care of the son? Or personal glorification?

the son already can take care of himself. he's already living in his own apartment and grad from uni. the dad show his love to him by this way.
the son also show to others that it does not matter whether are you disabled, but there is sumthing you definitely can do. The dad too has become an inspiration to others.
you may think that it's troubling the dad to do the things that he does but then the dad might not think that way. i guess.

I had ran marathons before not for my son but for myself.
Children cannot always ask from parents when he grows up even disabled.

i think that we might not knoe what is going on in the dad's mind when he is running the marathon. whether he is doing it for himself or for his son. but i guess he has been a gd example to the son who looks up to him and never give up as well even though he is disabled.

His blind obssession love for the son turn into a desire. He just want to please his son at all cost including his health. His son will feel the pressure of the dad's unending self suferring. That's is not a very nice thing afterall.

I think... one need to first understand the feelings of a parent when they have a child with disabilities.
And then realise how this parent conquered his frustration, self blame, helplessness - he channeled his love for his son into something that is constructive for both his son and himself.
Now that's what the big deal is about. Not the competition, not the fame.
Does the media bringing a message to you make the message less meaningful?

Attention seeker who can complete 4km swim, 180km cycling and 42km run???Forget to tell you. He need to tug his son on sea, pillion him and push his son all the way to ending point.
Only strong love for his son could push his strength and mental to do that?

Please his son at all cost including his health? What health damage has he suffer? At 66, he still compete at Ironman contest with his son. Somebody already at 66 already drop dead or suffer diabetic and cannot walk..Tell me how many people at 66yrs old still compete Ironman contest? 50percent? 30 percent?
