I am not sure whether I am doing the correct thing or not so here goes.
I am planning to slim down, maybe around 10kg. I hope to achieve it within a year or if it can be done in lesser time, all the better. Want to tone my flabby tummy and reduce the size of my thighs. Below is the schedule of my fitness regime:
Monday, Friday: 30 minutes on cross-trainer. Those who are familiar will know that the cross-trainer has pre-planned programs for you to choose from. I usually go with the Cross-Aerobics...I tried to peddle around 40RPM per minute (I am usually at level 9) then increase it to 60-70RPM in the next minute. Then I slowed down to around 40RPM again for a minute and go up to 60-70RPM. I do this repeatedly for 30 minutes without stopping, incorporating both forward and backward motion.
After the 30 minutes, I went to the rower machine and did 10 minutes of rowing at 22m/s (not sure about the unit, I know it is 22 sth). Then spend 10 minutes on the stationary bike.
Wednesday: Hip hop dancing lesson, 1 hour of jumping around...but it is going to end around mid Sept, then i will replace this lesson with gym session, similar routine with what I have done on Monday and Friday so far.
I want to do some free weights but not sure how to and dunno how beneficial it will. Maybe somebody here can point out how I can go abt it. I have read about it from other websites, but the explanations are too chim for me to understand. So appreciate if it can be explained in layman's terms, if possible.
Thanks. Of course I paid attention to my diet also, but I think that I will elaborate on later. Now just want to focus on the physical training part first. Thanks.
free weight for tone down: lighter weights, but do more sets...
free weight for muscle: heavier weights, and do more sets...

lighter weights...how much do you suggest? How many sets are appropriate?
I am a first timer in all this...never did weight lifting before...so dunno exactly where to start...

erm...how?
i think putting on a bit of muscle mass through free weights would be a good idea since muscles at rest will still passively burn more calories (how much more is debatable) and it should increase your metabolic rate as well

Yea, I have heard of that before. Problem is I am not really sure how to go about the weight training program cos I have never done it before.
And anyone know anything about HIIT?

if you want to lose weight, you do not jog. you do sprint intervals and maintain a healthy diet. sprint intervals are the most effective and efficient ways to boost your cardiovascular strength as well as shed fat because it is an intense process that happens in your body.
also, abs are made in the kitchen, not the gym. take boiled/steamed food only and cut the sugary drinks or oily fast food.

Doing interval training, I heard, can reduce fat loss.
