Guys, especially the malay ones,
I did some research and found out that not all whey protein supplements are halal. I would like to bring this up as an urgent matter because most malays are not aware of this. In the link below is the list of E-Numbers that are non-Halal.

Do note, the Whey origin in most brands are from animals and that is agaisnt religion according to Muslim scholars. IF you want a protein shake that is halal, basically, you have to check whether the whey is of non-animal origin and check if there is no gelatin involved.
A simplified list of non-halal ingredients in Protein Supplements:
Pls refer to the linkie above for more info.
Do inform your malay gym-buddies about this. Anyone who can help listing out the brands that aren't Halal is greatly appreciated to reply here.

Well, I'm Muslim, and yes, practising Muslims have to be careful of what they eat in order to fulfill their obligations.
Pure Whey protein comes from cow milk (whey is a left-over from the cheese making business). Cow milk, like eggs or fish, is perfectly halal, and so in my judgement, pure whey protein is halal too.
The problem comes if the manufacturer "stacks" his whey protein product with other stuff like ground up bone or whatever other animal product. Then the "halal" is called into question.
That's one reason why I avoid generic "protein powders" which can be made from anything, and stick to what the manufacturers claim to be "pure" whey protein powder.
Heck, there is even a "halal" whey protein on the market (at ON for example).
thanks for the info
What's HALAL? Can you please elaborate more ?

Dude, small correction.
Malay =/= Muslim.
Please inform your Muslim friends about it.
I have Indian-Muslim friends too. Just thought I'd clear this up a bit. Language errors tend to be misleading you know.

You serious or just being a troll?
"Ultimate Nutrition Prostar Whey" has a halal certificate (from the Islamic Food and Nutrition Council of America), but only for the Natural-Unflavoured variety.
See the cert here:
