Fact of the Night:
In 1940, a man died after reading his own obituary.
Marcus Garvey was an influential early 20th-century black nationalist who inspired the Nation of Islam and the Rastafarian movement, and was posthumously awarded the title of National Hero in Jamaica.
After Garvey suffered a stroke in 1940, the Chicago Defender, hearing he'd died, published his obituary. The obituary stated that he'd been deserted by his followers and died "broke, alone and unpopular." Upon reading this, Garvey suffered a second stroke and died the next day.
