  Quadrantids showers are coming up, peaking on 3rd Jan, 120 meteors per hour rating. Radiant point would be from Bootes.
  
  Never observed this before, but it has the same rating as Geminids.
  
  The next strong shower would be Lyrids in April.
  
  Spot the Big Dipper, and follow the path of stars of the "handle". It points you to Bootes. The first bright star is Arcturus, at the base of Bootes. Would not fail to spot it, it's the 3rd brightest star in the sky.
