For the ladies.
If you're a graduate and draws about 55k per annum including bonuses, will you consider a guy who has only O' levels but draws an annual salary of up to 160k including bonus and director fees. He's a salaried employee holding directorship in a and has a good portfolio.
If we'd not take the difference in earning/spending power of both but compares in terms of education level and maybe mindset, will you still consider him? The difference between a degree and o' level seems very far off though.
For the guys, I know it's anything goes as long as I make more moolah than her, but consider the fact that communication can be a problem especially during the times when you're dating, and you're gonna end up meeting her friends etc... the topics they're gonna talk about, you might not be able understand.
nah, dosen't really bother me. Normal acad, express, special, all the same when mature adults.

who cares about education when you got that kind of money?
I think our educational or certificate levels are totally being overated
just becoz a person's education is "high" it doesn't really mean they are.....
i find it stupid especially for those people who deem themselves as being highclass or the top of society juz becoz they've got a degree or masters etc...
its as if they think they've seen the world when in fact, they really haven't....becoz a person's educational level can never ever ever guarantee that the person will have a positive, open and non-boasting mindset.....having a proper minset and having a wide base of knowledge is two different things....
imagine if you got a bf who has an O level cert and your mom wants to introduce you to a guy who is doing his pre-u and stuff.....would that not be insulting? society needs a tight slap sometimes.....
i dun think communication should ever be classified as a problem....coz humans are supposed to be adaptive and therefore, if you cannot adapt or learn to communicate well, then it would care to show that the person is just plain lazy and is just chasing the girl for sex.......
lol ur afraid ur fren will look down on some1 which has O lv but earns 160k???
hmm.. are u the lady or the guy?

Dude, having a cert still beats somebody with no cert when it comes to securing a job. And having a highly overated one will mean securing a highly overated job as well.
Well...
Aunt Agony can be another good place to ask about relationships...
anyway, love can solve all problems...
however, it is 2008 now... does true love still exist?
^^
whats this topic about someone looking down on others? aside from a person's character, i dun think qualifications nor race nor looks nor money should have much to do with it.
well.. ultimately it's how you think of your self.

i'm a very practical person
imho $$ is more important to me
afterall other than knowledge gains, upgrading and etc, most of us pursue higher levels of education / paper qualifcation for the sake of having a better job post and earning more $$ .. no ?

well yeah thats true but even if a person has a higher cert, it doesn't prove that he/she has the character and attitude to keep the job.....
hmm...
160k a year wor.... I also want to earn that amount..., put in bonds and unit trusts, use some in certain stocks, and then retire before age 50, hopefully by age 45

Retire means can read more books and do more sports and hobbies, or even wait for more interest to come then go tour...
LKY says that as an excuse to stay in the MM position.

Possible, if you're a miser and has no liability. The system in SG is designed to make people work for most if not all of their lives.
Investments carries a risk, the higher the risk the better the returns and vice-versa. Unit trusts needs to be chosen correctly to see good returns. Unless you'e talking about government bonds, you have a possibility of defaults in corporate bonds.
On top of that, you need to have a large amount of cash surplus invested in the derivatives listed above to be able to retire early. Otherwise, you'll still need to work your asses off until retirement age.

I know suntec city bonds require 250k for a unit now, and if keep for 5 years, total payout at maturity is guaranteed at a minimum of 5.28% per annum, possibly more... That one should be lower risk ba...
But even if I'm a miser, my current gf (likely to be future wife) is not.
Actually I beg to differ that for investments, the higher the risk, the better the returns... If you know what you are doing, the risk would definitely be much lower than someone who is investing purely because of hearsay or by gut feeling... I'm still sponging up more research and info on this area though...
But talk so much... Ultimately still need the first pot of gold to do all these stuff... :(
if he's earning that much, it proves that he's capable.
so wat's a paper qualification? A degree holder might not earn that much anyway.
but if u say mindset different.. then it means there might be some conflicts here and there..
and abt socialising with her frens.. sometimes it really depends on sensitive is the gf.. she should be able to sense that her bf will feel out of place when certain topics are being discussed etc.
haven't you met plenty of people who have so-called degrees but talk so stupidly that you are better off talking to somebody 'less educated'
On the flipside, I've also talked to people with lesser education but who have this tendency to put on airs and talk like they know it all.
It's a syndrome called reverse superiority complex. Many of these people think that by being uppity, they can feel better about themselves.
