Is it safe for Singaporeans to visit JB?

  An Indian Malaysian, who is a Singapore permanent resident and a prison warden working at Changi Prison, was killed in JB recently. He visited a pub in JB at about 1am with a friend. They went there with their Singapore registered motorcycle. They left the pub at about 5am. They were attacked by a group of Indians outside the pub. They fled in separate directions. The prison warden was caught up by the group. He was attacked and he suffered slashed wounds on his back. His body was later found on the driveway. But his belongings are missing. Malaysia Police is handling the investigation. Is this a case of armed robbery targeting Singaporeans? Is it safe for Singaporeans to visit JB?

  Clearly JB cannot be as safe as Singapore. It is a much bigger place. It is a known fact that there are large numbers of illegal immigrants there. And when people are desperate,they will rob and mug and steal. It is not a place whereby you want to visit  a Pub at late hours of the night or early hours of the morning. Those who do that claim it is safe. Yes it is safe, as long as you have  yet to become the latest victim.

  In JB robbers do not only ransack your homes when you are not around. If they do target you, they come right up your doorstep and at knifepoint or gunpoint, relieve you of your worldly possessions, which could include your household items, cash, jewellery and even the car parked at your porch.This happens not only to foreigners, but also to Malaysians living in JB.

  why, enjoy yourself and have a nice time of course! But  going to a Pub till early hours of the morning...is not necessary surely!

  The following measures might be useful: - a) Avoid wearing excessive jewelleries or valuables; b) Avoid going to notorious place. For example, unlicensed pub, illegal entertainment outlets, mess etc; c) Avoid isolated place, road and carpark; d) Be wary of suspicious persons and leave immediately when you sensed trouble; e) Go with your friends; f) Call Police or Singapore Embassy for assistance when you are in trouble. h) Locked your car doors when you need to stop your vehicle.

  A dark complexion male subject, believed to be a drug addict, armed with a syringe, claimed to be HIV carrier, robbed a Chinese Singaporean who was shopping for a landed property near Plaza Sentosa, JB on 31 July 2012.
