Hare Krishna!
Dear You,
Just as each community of people have their own New Year Day, for the Gaudiya Vaisnavas, the followers of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu, the New Year Day is the Gaura Purnima or the Appearance Day of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Who Is Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu?
Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Lord Krishna Himself. But unlike Krishna, who is of the complexion of a fresh blue rain cloud, Caitanya Mahaprabhu has a hue of molten gold.
Lord Krishna, 5,500 years ago, in the Bhagavad Gita, instructed everyone to surrender unto Him utterly, leaving aside all material considerations, in order to put an end to one's continual suffering in this material world, life after life. But the general population, especially in this Kali-Yuga, the Iron Age of Quarrel, were baffled by this instruction as to how to surrender to Krishna. Many of them failed to understand this essence of the Bhagavad Gita.
In order to show everyone how to surrender to Krishna, He descended 525 years ago in the form of His own devotee and demonstrated practically, the ideal life of a Vaishnava, a devotee of Lord Krishna. He is therefore, an ideal Acarya (a person who teaches by personal example).
Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is the most munificient of all incarnations of Krishna because he distributed freely the greatest treasure, love of God, Krishna-prema, through the Sankirtana movement, the congregational chanting of the Holy Names:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna |
Krishna Krishna Hare Hare ||
Hare Rama Hare Rama |
Rama Rama Hare Hare ||

Lord Caitanya's Mission
Usually an incarnation of Lord Vishnu or Krishna descends to kill the demons and to protect the devotees, thereby reestablishing religious principles, as confirmed in the Bhagavad Gita.
But Caitanya Mahaprabhu did not carry any weapons. The people in this Kali Yuga, lacking God-consciousness, are so condemned that they are as good as dead. So there is no use killing them.
He simply distributed love of God through the Sankirtana-Yajna, the congregational dancing and chanting the Holy Names of Krishna.
Therefore, if one at all wants to get relief from the blazing forest fire of materialistic life, he must jump into the ocean of the Sankirtana movement inaugurated by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Lord Caitanya's Great Prophecy
While on this planet, Lord Caitanya made a great prophecy. He mentioned that the glories of the Holy Name of Krishna shall be preached in every village and town on the surface of the globe.
The dear most servitor of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu who is instrumental in accomplishing this herculean task is His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (right).
In a short period of 12 years, starting literally from scratch at the advanced age of 69, he established 108 temples of Krishna all over the world where the pure glories of Lord Krishna are propagated. He initiated about 5,000 disciples in that period and practically millions of books were distributed in 81 languages in all the 6 continents to all people of all races.
His work has not stopped. His books continue to vibrate the transcendental message of Lord Krishna as revealed in the Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam, the two crown-jewels of the Vedic literature, thereby saving millions of suffering souls in this world.
