One who cannot abandon grief, is dragged further into sorrow.
Bewailing the dead, one becomes a slave to grief.

A Description of an Alien Visit in the Buddhist Lotus Sutra

As background before proceeding, Buddhist cosmology is surprisingly modern. Buddhism recognizes the existence of millions of other worlds and casually asserts that they are inhabited. Indeed, each inhabited world is stated to have a Buddha of its own. (The word “Buddha” means an enlightened being. In Buddhist teachings, anyone is theoretically capable of becoming a Buddha, although actually accomplishing this goal is rare.) One Buddhist scripture mentions in passing that on earth sermons are given with words, but on other worlds sermons may be given with light or with scents or by other non-verbal means.

Verse 189. Those Refuges Do Not Help
Such refuge isn’t secure, such refuge isn’t supreme. From all dukkha one’s not free unto that refuge gone.
Explanation: These are not secure refuges. These are not the supreme refuge. One who takes refuge in them is not released from all sufferings.

Chapter 38: The Impermanence of Life
The Buddha asked a shramana, “How long can one be sure of staying alive?” “A few days,” was the reply. The Buddha said, “You do not know about life.” He asked another shramana, “How long can one be sure of staying alive?” “The length of a meal,” was the reply. The Buddha said, “You do not know about life.” He then asked another shramana, “How long can one be sure of staying alive?” The reply was “A single breath.” The Buddha said, “Well said, you know about life!”

When pleasant things arise, understand that they are empty. When unpleasant things arise, understand that they are not you, not yours; they pass away.
If you don't relate to the phenomena as being you or see yourself as their owner, the mind comes into balance. This balance is the correct path, the correct teaching of the Buddha which leads to liberation.
Often people get so excited - " Can I attain this or that level of Samadhi ?" or " What powers can I develop ?" They completely skip over the Buddha's teaching to some other realm that's not really useful.
The Dhamma is to be found in the simplest things in front of you, if you're willing to look. And the essence of this balance is the no grasping mind.

Practice the Dharma before karmic effects catch up with you just like you run before your enemies catch you.

No one cries for strangers unless you have compassion.

“Suffering Is Arguing With Reality.” ~ Byron Katie
Best not to label things as good or bad, especially totally or always. We suffer least when we can accept reality just as it is, and not to resist seeing the truth. That’s not to say do nothing to correct or improve things, but we benefit most when we open our heart in compassion and our mind in appreciation.
- “If you are pained by external things, it is not they that disturb you, but your own judgment of them. And it is in your power to wipe out that judgment now.”
~ Marcus Aurelius
