Of course we can. The fact that Si Malu Temple has so many devotees just tells it all.
Buddhists are encouraged to turn to Pusas for help, especially Guan Yin Pusa because Guan Yin Pusa vows to help sentient beings. Guan Yin Pusa reads your mind, transcends languages. So, you can communicate with her in all languages. Languages were created by humans, words are empty. Pusa reads your mind, not your language.
If one prays for longevity, one must not kill. Help yourself so that Pusa can help you. If not, Pusa also can't do anything to help you.
观 means observes 世 means world 音 means sounds. 观世音 observes and listens to sentient beings' worldly matters especially our sufferings.

Lord Buddha : Dear monks ..! Have you seen that people collect and carry, woods and leaves from this temple garden..?
Monks : Yes Lord Buddha..
Lord Buddha: So when you see it, do you think that they carry yourselves and going to burn ..?
Monks : No Lord Buddha we don’t think like that..
Lord Buddha: Why is that..?
Monks : Those things do not belong to us, that’s why…
Lord Buddha: But dear monks..This body you are having can be taken away by death any given time, do you understand that..?
Monks : Yes Lord Buddha, we will not be able to stop death from taking this body away..
Lord Buddha: So it is correct to think this body is yours..?
Monks : No Lord Buddha, that is incorrect..
Lord Buddha: Dear monks...Always be mindful of the reality, that will be beneficial to all of us….

“Visakha, would you like to have as many sons, daughters grandsons and granddaughters as there are children in this town?” asked the Buddha.
“Yes, Sir, I would indeed!”
“But how many children die daily in this town?” The Buddha questioned..
“Several, Sir. The town is never free from children dying, Sir,” Visakha replied.
“Then, Visakha, in such a case, would you cry for all of them? Visakha, those who have a hundred things beloved, they have a hundred sorrows. He who has nothing beloved, has no sorrow.
Such persons are free from sorrow.” The Buddha mercifully enlightened Visakha over the death of human beings.

The Dhammapada: The Buddha's Path of Wisdom
..."They go to many a refuge,
to mountains and forests,
to park and tree shrines:
people threatened with danger.
That's not the secure refuge,
not the supreme refuge,
that's not the refuge,
having gone to which,
you gain release
from all suffering & stress.
But when, having gone
to the Buddha, Dhamma,
& Sangha for refuge,
YOU SEE WITH RIGHT DISCERNMENT THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS —
1 -Stress,
2 -The Cause of Stress,
3 -The Transcending of Stress,
4 -The Noble Eightfold Path,
the way to the stilling of stress:
...That's The Secure Refuge,
that, The Supreme Refuge,
that is The Refuge,
having gone to which,
You Gain Release
From All Suffering & Stress".
- The Dhammapada: 188-192
