The Bodhisattva Kishitigarbha Vow
His greatest compassionate Vow being: "If I do not go to the hell to help the suffering beings there, who else will go? ... if the hells are not empty I will not become a Buddha. Only when all living beings have been saved, will I attain Bodhi."

We are surrounded by impermanence and accidental calamities. When life comes to its grand end, do use wisdom to change helplessness into usefulness.

What is compassion? It is not simply a sense of sympathy or caring for the person suffering, not simply a warmth of heart toward the person before you, or a sharp clarity of recognition of their needs and pain, it is also a sustained and practical determination to do whatever is possible and necessary to help alleviate their suffering.

Dawn, I have question:
Will doing good deeds on behalf of the deceased i.e. charity donations etc. transfer merit such that to lessen any suffering in his or her new existence? How and what can one do to help the deceased in this aspect?

Hi, Nice to see you here again. In Buddhism, we believe in reincarnation if one did not practice liberation in his/her lifetime. There are 6 rebirth realms (heaven, humans, demi-gods, animals, ghosts and hell). It is commonly believe reincarnation takes place within 49 days after passing. The best is do good deeds and dedicate merits to the deceased within 49 days to help him/her to be reborn in the 3 upper realms. However, if it's already passed the 49 days, good deeds can still be done on behalf of him/her and dedicate merits to him/her. This will help to relieve sufferings or shorten his/her stay in the 3 lower realms he/she already in or improve the conditions of his/her stay in the 3 upper realms.
I believe you have seen pet dogs which live better lives than some humans. 狗命。These dogs are with merits. Even in ghosts realm, there are ghosts with merits德鬼 and hungry ghosts 饿鬼. Again, merits play a part.

Remain composed at all times, in good and bad times. During good times, makes good use of the opportunity to cultivate more good. When bad times come, just remember that this is only temporary and will soon pass as you have already cultivated good and the good times will definitely come again in the near future.

JUST LET IT GO...
"Someone calls you an idiot.
Then you start thinking, "How can they call me an idiot?
They've got no right to call me an idiot!
How rude to call me an idiot !
I'll get them back for calling me an idiot."
... And you suddenly realize that you have just let them call you an idiot another four times.
Every time you remember what they said, you allow them to call you an idiot yet again. Therein lies the problem.
If someone calls you an idiot and you immediately let it go, then it doesn't bother you.
... There is the solution. LET IT GO! Why allow other people to control your inner happiness?"
