There would be no chance at all of getting to know death if it happened only once. But fortunately, life is nothing but a continuing dance of birth and death, a dance of change. Every time I hear the rush of a mountain stream, or the waves crashing on the shore, or my own heartbeat, I hear the sound of impermanence. These changes, these small deaths, are our living links with death. They are death’s pulses, death’s heartbeat, prompting us to let go of all the things we cling to.

The Buddha-Dhamma is a Torch, since it guides beings through the Darkness.
The Buddha-Dhamma is a Boat, since it brings beings across to the far Shore.
The Buddha-Dhamma is a Mirror, since it shows beings, how they Actually are.
The Buddha-Dhamma is a Medicine, since it cures beings from deep Diseases.

财富如水,布施如挖井。井越深,水越多。
布施的越多,财富则越大。
Wealth is like running water, and giving like digging a well. Just as the deeper the well, the more water it holds, the more you give, the more wealth you have.

It is surely no good celebration,
to celebrate any birth-days
with the death-days of others,
with many feasting upon them.

o dwell in the here and now does not mean you never think about the past, or responsibly plan for the futurre. The idea is simply not to allow yourself to get lost in regrets about the past or worries about the future. If you are firmly grounded in the present moment, the past can be an object of inquiry, the object of your mindfulness and concentration. You can attain many insights by looking into the past, but you are still grounded in the present moment.
