  The most famous historical Chinese Buddhist is probably Venerable Master Xuanzang. He is well known for his unwavering determination to go to the West in search of Buddhist sutras. In his time, many Chinese Buddhist discrepancies taught the different versions of Indian Buddhist Sutra translation. Therefore, he decided to travel to the West (India) in search for the correct Dharma. He crossed dangerous deserts and conquered snow-capped mountains. It is during this journey that he vowed “Rather take a step forward to the West (India) and die but never a step backward to the East (China) and live.”
