Unpleasant encounters, unhappy situations
we must mend our own minds, not other people’s minds

The Dharma is about everyday events. We wake up and face a new set of challenges which may come from any direction. We have surprises. We have shocking news.We have sad news.We have tragic news.We face problems. We face hate.We have animosity. We face all sorts of problems - all hitting right at our face.And...sometimes we are rewarded with a bonus: love, care and concern.
A smile, a warm hand shake, a loving hug. But we all know, all these will soon pass...good or bad, happy or sad.
What shall we do? Face them squarely and do not let these problems defeat us.Keep a cool mind. We know very well that all these bad and sad news will soon fade away.Do not immortalise them in our own mind and become a prisoner of these events.
Take comfort that all things will soon fade away however heavy, however painful ,however tragic...all these will pass....
Learn to let go. Learn to stay calm and cool. Learn to see things as they are - Annica, Anatta,Dukkha.

There's this story about a Zen Master who planted a pot of flowers. One day, when Zen Master was out, his disciple accidentally dropped the pot of flowers and the pot was broken. When the Zen Master was back, the disciple was afraid that he would be angry with him over the pot of flowers, the disciple asked for forgiveness and asked the Zen master not to get angry. The Zen Master wasn't angry at all, he said he planted the flowers were meant to offer to the Buddhas and to beautify the environment, not because he wanted to get angry.

“You say, “Don’t break my glass!” Can you prevent something that’s breakable from breaking? If it doesn’t break now it will break later on. If you don’t break it, someone else will. If someone else doesn’t break it, one of the chickens will! The Buddha says to accept this. He penetrated the truth of these things, seeing that this glass is already broken. Whenever you use this glass you should reflect that it’s already broken.
Do you understand this? The Buddha’s understanding was like this. He saw the broken glass within the unbroken one. Whenever its time is up it will break. Develop this kind of understanding. Use the glass, look after it, until when, one day, it slips out of your hand… “Smash!”… no problem. Why is there no problem? Because you saw its brokenness before it broke!”

Miracles can't change the fact that everything is impermanent.

We wash our legs when our legs are dirty. When we hear someone saying something unpleasant about us, we take it to heart and remember it for a long time. Then, our heart is useless compare with our legs.
