Welcome back...Glad that u survive.Originally posted by Fuqua:Sori i chatted up ur GF spencer .... kidding. but i did meet and chatted wiv quiet a few interesting ppl.
Hi guys, sori for the delay in this report. I just came back from a week long holiday in Bangkok. Anyway, I went into the race feeling quite good. I started slow as i planned and was running strong for the first 2.5hrs straight when my legs began to get a slight cramps. It was easy to ignore at first but as i continued to run/walk through it, but it got progressivley worse.
By 32km, i had a really major cramps, on both legs, decided then not to risk serious injuries and just walked to the finished line. I finished in 6hrs 16mins. Crikes!! I know could do so much better.
Overall, a good experience. I have a much more healthier respect for the sport now, and know personally it IS hard on the body. I know for certain i have the endurance and fitness to run long distance but i need to put in the long hours of training so i would not get legs cramps during race day.
I'm gonna run the half-marathon in KL in March. That should be fun
Thxs. Bangkok was easy to surviveOriginally posted by kops21:Welcome back...Glad that u survive.

The guy i talked to did something like 9:1, 9 minutes running, 1 minute walking and he did it right from the start, like u said. I must agreed tho it must be hard and anyway, i like running too much ... hmmm. My goal is to run thro the whole marathon, but the idea with the galloway method is to prevent injuries in later life i suppose.Originally posted by spencer99:All Fuqua. Welcome back.....
I borrowed Jeff Galloway's book from the library.... he emphasized about the run/walk technique... he specifically said that one should walk during the early phases when you don't feel tired and not walk when you feel tired...apparently walking uses a different set of muscles and let your running muscles rest while u r still covering distances by walking..he had a lot of computation on speed and formulas to show that you are better off walking a bit.... There is a lot on training for marathon as well. I think his book is more practical and the language simple. there are some other marathon books which i picked up which are too complicated!!!
if you wait until tired then walk.... too late.... that is the theory... I read that after my SBR 1/2M and didn't really have a chance to put in practice until the Stand chart full M. And I find that at the initial stage I sort of go with the flow with everyone runnings.... kind of hard to walk and have everyone overtake you. So I run and forgot about my game plan.... I think I only start taking walking breaks at the ECP at which time I am already tired.....
I think the program will work.. but need practice and discipline.....
Fuqua,
Tell us about the kl marathon when u come back. do they have 1/2M?
Hello Penguin, U 007 ? Follow us back to hereOriginally posted by klpenguin:Hello Spencer99 and Kops21 fatrat,
Followed the cookies crumbs back to here and read your interesting comments.
Spencer99 .. Very Sorry but ..
I might be the fellow guilty of trying to chat up your GF. This Singapore girl name was "meng" or "Ling". She over took me towards the end.
Wish you guys luck with the KL Marathon. Its not as good as Singapore but Ok for a spin. There is an unwritten half hour extra on top of the 6 hour cut off time. So if one were to come in with a time of 6 hours and 30 minutes .. you will still get the finisher medal. After that ... no guaranteees
All the best,

Full-M and Half-M - All who finish within the qualifying time will get finisher medalsOriginally posted by spencer99:The galloway method is suppose to help you improve your timing by "walking". I know it is counter-intuitive... but he made quite a good arguement in the book and was endorsed by runners that tried his method and works........
Is there a finisher medal for the KL marathon, 1/2M and 10k. The entry fee not cheap..... it better be a properly organized race!
Well, lookie lookie. What an honour!Originally posted by klpenguin:Hello Spencer99 and Kops21 fatrat,

Nice klim04 report. The photos of the girls distracted me a bit but i like photo of the medal. I WANT IT TOO!!!!!Originally posted by klpenguin:Hello Spencer99
It cost $30 Malaysian to register for the KLIM05 but for overseas people its the same amount but in USA dollars. Real Killer ! As its not as good as the singapore marathon.
Race route is hilly (towards the end), no sports massage and medical teams normally do not have vaseline or deep heat rub in their bags. No mobile toilets along race route. Cheer spectators depends on weather (ie hot sun ..adious).
Check out my KLIM04 race report .. that was my first marathon and the Sinagpore was my 5th.
Keep in touch,

That settle it then. I'm joining the full marathon.
Do u know if the race officials will allow us to bring our own drinks, heat rub, power gel during the day? thanks in advance
Can't help it. The way i'm feeling now, it's either run or die. sad but true.Originally posted by kops21:Steady lah...so fast wanna run leow har...
I have PM Penguin 6 for additional details not just on KL but on other marathons as well...akan datang...
I want to take things easy too and go for 1/2M but the reckless side of me want to rectify my singapore mistake quickly and run the full marathon and prove indeed i can do run a better time. I worry the organisation though.Originally posted by spencer99:Actually if you consider the trip to and from KL (bus or flight) and hotel stay cost.... the entry fee for marathon is not very significant. If I run I will go for 1/2M. Full M might too tough. will also go with gf so we will run together.
Okay, will update you when i get anything worthy...stay tuned folks..Originally posted by Fuqua:Can't help it. The way i'm feeling now, it's either run or die. sad but true.
gotta go to the gym later and work on my upper body then plan my training for the KL marathon. 6th March not that far off u know ...
rite then, Keep us informed yeah.
i find that doing 1/2M at KL, abit wasteful as travel so far leow and do only 1/2M Nah...Training also run more than 1/2 M lah.....what is different? At least 4 u guys lah...me still abit short of distance, but will push up the mileage to another notch soon to prepare for Full M.Originally posted by Fuqua:I want to take things easy too and go for 1/2M but the reckless side of me want to rectify my singapore mistake quickly and run the full marathon and prove indeed i can do run a better time.
