So I see you've visited all the gyms. Do you train with Zach, Joe or Thomas now?Originally posted by TheGreatest:Well, You're wrong again. Thomas's English Sucks. So does most of the trainers, but it doesn't matter. The best at explaining in english is Zach n joe.
we having it under construction. Actually, recently we just moved from Maxwell to Concourse. Therefore, the gym isn't offcially open to outsiders yet.Originally posted by watermyforest:any website on the concourse gym?
I trained a little everywhere. Mostly at Hill Top.Originally posted by gentlerock:So I see you've visited all the gyms. Do you train with Zach, Joe or Thomas now?
Yeah, me too. I've trained a little everywhere too (local and overseas) and used to train at Hilltop too, for two years (together with Zach when he was still training there). I left Hilltop some years back and lost contact with everyone.Originally posted by TheGreatest:I trained a little everywhere. Mostly at Hill Top.
It should be tat botak rite?Originally posted by gentlerock:Yeah, me too. I've trained a little everywhere too (local and overseas) and used to train at Hilltop too, for two years (together with Zach when he was still training there). I left Hilltop some years back and lost contact with everyone.
Did Johnnie tell you the story about a certain instructor who bandaged his arm (to pretend that he was injured) when someone challenged to spar with him?
You're right pal! hahaha.....I was actually there that day and saw the bandaged arm. It was hilarious!Originally posted by TheGreatest:It should be tat botak rite?(you should know wat i mean)
I heard there is just 6 matches only... Not a real tournanment. Just friendly sparring.Originally posted by bacaraat:heard that there's going to be a muay thai tournament come 25-26 feb organise by sbf........anyone got any updates??
HUH ?Originally posted by tnemgarf:ani1 noes where'll it b @ n whos joinin?
The match IS a gimmick, but that does not change the fact that it's no mean feat. If you have done any ground fighting before (and i'm not saying you haven't) you will know that being pinned under a person that outweighs you by even just 20kg is incredibly uncomfortable. If Akebono mounted me or got good side control on me, i believe i would just tap out from the pressure on my chest and ribs.Originally posted by mighty_megatron:Royce Gracie beating Akebono was a gimmick match imo. It was like watching those early UFC's. The sport doesn't need these types of matches. Those types of fights don't interest me as a fan. With the Gracies, its a case of you either like them or hate them and no in between. I personally dislike the majority of the Gracies apart from Renzo who seems to be the only one who doesn't have that 'i'm a badass and you don't wanna mess with me attitude'.
Anyone watch Pride as well as just the UFC or K-1? I saw UFC 51 last week and it was a great show. Andrei Arlovski is the man!
Lana and Alvin are both Darren's former students.Originally posted by gentlerock:A guy called Alvin (this one I don't know personally, sorry) runs free-lance classes outdoors. He has no gym. Alvin has also trained in Thailand before, I think. He has a website but I'm too lazy to find it.....try a google search.
A 44-year-old lady called Lana teaches muay thai at some community centre (do a google search). She has no permanent gym and relies on using thai pads only. I don't believe she's ever fought before, but surprisingly some of her students turned out not too bad!
A ya-ya guy (late 30's) called Thomas teaches muaythai at some hotel gym in Orchard Area. This guy is a fake, but is very charismatic. Even when we go for supper, he talks like a master to the prata guy....but its all fake. Don't even bother looking for him. UPDATE 26 JAN 2005: This is the guy teaching at Revenue House (opposite Novena)...I think its on the 6th floor.
A guy called Colin, in his 40's (he knows nothing about muaythai - he's a businessman) used to run a school at east coast, then turf city, then now I heard he's moved to somewhere at the beach road side. He has a website. Do a google search for "first muaythai singapore". The last time I met him was years ago and I don't get along with him very well.
Kadir's boxing gym (a western boxing gym at the Katong area) also has some muaythai sometimes. Do a search using google. Never been there, but I know someone who trains there.
A guy (late 20's) called Darren DeSilva runs a muaythai/MMA school in the town area on certain nights only. He rents a gym for training on 1-2 nights a week, I think. The last time I met this guy was before he even started running a school....so I don't know how he's doing now. Once again, try doing a search on google.
Um....there must be a few more places, but its lunch time now, sorry!
I thought Alvin trained in Thailand?Originally posted by samadhi_fire:Lana and Alvin are both Darren's former students.
Any website?Originally posted by samadhi_fire:Also, Darren (now in his early 30s =) ) has his gym in the town area - beside Clarkey Quay MRT Station. It's a full-time academy and there're lessons there every night. Fight experience - tons of it. One of his fighters was fighitng in TPI in Indonesia as well. I'm a student there and I highly recommend it.
Oh yah, at Darren's academy, there're now lessons there in Muay Thai, Submission Grappling, MMA, Kali/Escrima, Tomiki Aikido and Kyokushin Karate.
What right have you got to put others down like that? At least others have fighting and teaching experience. And you? Just hiding behind your computer talking big. I think you won't stand a round of sparring with Darren or his fighters.Originally posted by TheGreatest:[quote]Originally posted by watermyforest:

Darren de sliva learn muaythai in east coast big splash under first muaythai fitness before. Its actually where he started. After sometimes he started to work as a trainer there. He has no muaythai fighting experience before. n i heard he was giving excuses to avoid sparring with the thais during their visit in singapore. After sometimes he come out of first muaythai becos of some "VCDs "incident. not too sure abt tat, check with him
Hes well trained in Bjj.(At least in singapore, But i know there are other guys tat cant lock him like a rug doll. those in SJC)
He was KO in the first round during the fight in indonesia last year.Well, It shows tat he is stupid enough to think he can compete with other countries.
MMA is one of the hottest trend nowadays. you'll learn everything. But a little of everything.
Lana is a nice lady,Well, at least after training
The style she's teaching is pure muaythai.Listen ,pure muaythai. Not Rojak.she trained in thailand. I dont think she train with darren before. You heard from Darren right. ?
Well its kind of proud to tell some one someone else is your former student of stuff like tat. Darren trained under Johnny before last time. Did he tell you tat?
Alvin seet got fighting experiences in thailand n russia before, He shown me all his fight photos. It was really great. the photos of all his fights in thailand show hes really something. But he told me it nothing compare to those high level standard in thailand. But man , its really difficult to imagine a singaporean doing tis stuff in thailand. His fight photos is more better compare to some ppl instructor cert which is just a piece of paper, n some of them are fakes .Hes now holding his classes somewhere near town i think , long time no see him.![]()
