About the course conductor.
Shihan Dana Abbott has devoted more than 25 years his life to the martial arts and specializes in Japanese weaponry He is especially adept sword play and holds the esteemed rank of Kyoshi 7th Dan in Goshindo at the Hombu Dojo in Yokohama, Japan.
In 1995 he was appointed Kokusai Bucho (International Director) for the Zen Nihon Goshindo Renmei and the Kokusai Sports Chanbara Kyokai (International Sports Chanbara Association). Shihan Abbott has conducted courses and seminars for security agencies and Martial Arts groups in more than 30 countries throughout the world.
Shihan AbbottÂ’s recent recognitions include: Weapons Instructor (2004) of the Black Belt Magazine Hall of Fame, United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame (2004), the Universal Martial Arts Halls of Fame (2004), Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame (2005), and World Karate Union Hall of Fame (2005). Padded weaponry training.
Jagsport is proud to be host Shihan Dana AbbottÂ’s visit to Singapore. This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of the foremost weapons masters and to enhance current training through the use of padded weaponry. These padded weapons satisfy the highest standards of the martial arts, law enforcement and sports industries. They are designed to allow users to spar easily and train at 100 percent of their strength and speed, without fear of pain, while capturing all rigors of the full-contact sparring. Courses
1. Mixed Weapons introductory course. This is a short 3 hour familiarization programme introduces Kodachi (short sword), Choken (long sword), Bo & Jo (short & long staff), Yari & Naginata (spear & halberd) and the Escrima stick (baton). Dates: Thu 08/09 from 1900h – 2200h. Course fees: $80.00.
2. Short & Long Sword introductory course. This 1.5 hour programme covers Kodachi (short sword) & choken (long sword) training covering set techniques and sparring. Dates: Fri 09/09 from 2000h – 2130h.
Course fees: $40.00
3. Short Sword introductory course. This is a 1 hour programme covering kihon dosa (basic movements) and sparring techniques. Course fees: $30.00.
4. Student short sword proficiency. This 9 hour programme will provide the candidate with the necessary skills pertaining to the kodachi. The course will cover all aspects of kihon training, pre-arranged striking and blocking techniques, sparring and training procedures. Candidates may choose to be certified by the appropriate organizations upon successful completion of the course. Dates: Thu 08/09 from 1330h – 1630h (3hr) and Fri 09/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), 1330h – 1630h (3hr). Course fees: $240.00. Certification fees not included.
5. Mixed weapons proficiency. This diversified 12 hour padded weapons training programme will provided the candidate with the necessary skills to handle mixed weaponry training at full speed. The course programme covers padded weaponry training utilizing swords, staves, spears, knives and sticks. Upon completion, the candidate may choose to be evaluated and certified by the appropriate organizations. Dates: Sat 10/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), 1300h – 1600h (3hr) and Sun 11/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), 1300h – 1600h (3hr).
Course fees: $300.00. Certification fees not included.
6. Short & Long Sword proficiency. Covering all aspects of kihon training, pre-arranged striking and blocking techniques, sparring and training procedures, this 12 hour programme will provide the candidate with the necessary skills pertaining for effective use of the kodachi (short sword) and choken (long sword). Candidates may choose to be graded upon successful completion of the course. Course fees: $300.00. Certification fees not included.
Dates 1: Mon 12/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), Tue 13/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), Wed 14/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), Thu 15/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr).
Dates 2: Mon 12/09 from 1530h – 1830h (3hr), Tue 13/09 from 1530h – 1830h (3hr), Thu 15/09 from 1900h – 2200h (3hr), Fri 16/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr).
7. Mixed weapons instructor course. This 10 hour programme for current martial arts instructors covers padded weaponry training utilizing swords, staves, spears, knives and batons. Candidates may choose to be certified as padded weapons instructor, upon successful completion of the course. Dates: Mon 12/09 from 1300h -1500h (2hr), Tue 13/09 from 1300h -1500h (2hr), Wed 14/09 from 1300h -1500h (2hr), Thu 15/09 from 1300h -1500h (2hr), Fri 16/09 from 1300h -1500h (2hr). Course fees: $270.00. Certification fees not included.
8. Sword Instructor course. This is a 9 hour programme for current martial arts instructors or for candidates who have successfully completed the Sword proficiency course. The course covers all aspects of sword training including planning and conducting classes and competitions. Candidates may choose to be certified as Sports Chanbara instructor, upon successful completion of the course. Dates: Sat 17/09 from 0900h – 1200h (3hr), 1300h – 1600h (3hr), 1900h – 2200h (3hr). Course fees: $240.00. Certification fees not included.
Evaluation / assessment dates
1. Student Short Sword evaluation: Sat 10/09 1900h – 2100h. Certification fees vary according to Grades.
2. Mixed Weapons evaluation: Sun 11/09 from 1630h – 1830h. Certification fees vary according to Grades.
3. Sword evaluation: Mon 19/09 or Tue 20/09, from 0900h – 1200h. Certification fees vary according to Grades.
Competition
1. Short and Long Sword competition Sun 18/09 from 0900h – 1300h. Registration fees $40.00
2. Mixed Weapon competition Sun 18/09 from 1400h – 1800h. Registration fees $40.00
