Four England players on shortlist for FIFA award

Four England players have made it on to the shortlist for FIFA's world player of the year award.
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, voted the most valuable player in Europe by UEFA in August, has the best chance of an English player winning the award after his role in leading the Reds to success in the Champions League.
England captain David Beckham, Manchester United's Wayne Rooney and Chelsea's Frank Lampard have also been nominated on the the preliminary list of 30 players drawn up by FIFA.
The shortlist is, as always, dominated by strikers and attacking midfielders with just one goalkeeper in the 30.
Real Madrid have six players on the shortlist, AC Milan five and Chelsea four - Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, Lampard and Arjen Robben,
There are 10 players from the Barclays Premiership, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Thierry Henry, Jay-Jay Okocha and Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The coaches and captains of every national team will be sent the shortlist and asked to choose their top three players, and the one with the most votes will be announced at the FIFA gala in Zurich on December 19.

I think Frank Lampard And Arjen Robben Stand good chance on winning this Fifa Award -
I think Steven Gerard stands very high chance thou. He did played a major role in liverpool winning the title
ANother one would be either ROnaldinho whom already won the world player lia. -
Thierry Henry.He deserves it..what more does he have to do?If Arsenal manages to win the Champions League this year, he should clinch it.

Ronaldinho's performance for Barca has nothing short of inspirational. He also brought his astute display to the National team too. I say, he'll get the award for the second time running.
Among the 4 England players, Gerrard does look a notch ahead the rest in based on his European exploits and astute leadership at LFC. It's something that FIFA would probably think highly of.
Lampard could have win it but his performance is more to the efficient/consistent/EPL side. He is increasingly looking like a German player to me in a sense.
Wayne Rooney, FIFA young player of the year. Period, you end here. He'll be the star performer soon but not now. Perhaps WC06 may see a 5-star Rooney performance for England. Inspiring performance for the Red Devils not not consistent. He'll need to watch out on the cards.
David Beckham, much nothing about him for this Season. Did not played in his best position for RM and Eng until recently. Dun worry, you still have ya endorsements.

Both are so influential at their clubs.Rooney stands a chance too....He's de creator and important playmaker for man u but he is just not as influential as them.... -

It doesn't matter what FIFA thinks, it matters what the hundreds of national coaches around the world think. They are the ones voting, not FIFA. FIFA merely drew up the shortlist.

y everybody seem to think english players will win? fifa award is given not only about club football, it's oso about international performance... gerrard, looney n co has done nothing spectacular n expect to win? no chance... can expect ronaldinho to win it...

Many coaches consider the European Champions League to be of a higher quality than the World Cup. What I'm saying is that what Gerrard has done does not pale in comparison to Ronaldinho's contribution.
