  The only true playmaker from England of recent times is Gazza (Paul Gasgoigne)
  
  Steven Gerard and Lampard not really considered a playmaker. They are more of a old british style attacking midfielders.
  
  My favourite playmaker: Zidine Zidane and Francesco Totti(when he is not spitting)

  In a way,you can consider the old-fashioned sweeper a kind of playmaker also since he is the one who starts everything clicking.Oldies such as Koeman,Rijkaard,Beckenbauer.
