They cant get anyone till January earliest when the next trxfer window opens... even though someone may come in i dont think anyone can just walk into the team and getting the captaincy immediately... i think Gary Neville will be the next captain and Ballack will be the primary target and appointed vice-captain if he's in...

I think no one can replace him. They can only find a player who is close to him in terms of ability. Its hard to replace him just as its hard to replace Viera when he left Arsenal.

i agree on that 2...in terms of playing attributes, there's a few candidates out there in the world to replace him but in terms of the attitude and mentality factor...no one in the world can...he's like the soul driving man utd..instructing players, reading the game..etc...

Anyway in terms of Captaincy,I am at a loss as G.Neville, whom i think should be the next captain in terms of the 'soul' factor,is currently injured...Giggs is another choice but he is not playing for Man Utd that regularly now...RVN...i dont think he makes a gd captain...Honestly I cant see special leadership qualities in him... Rio is alrdy tryin to do too much and if he was appointed captain, i think that he would rather concentrate on his Captain role rather than his defensive tasks...

To say no one can replace in terms of ability and leadership is a bit harsh. No doubt he is a world class player in his day, but remember he is not the only world class player playing the same position. It will be very unfair to other players to say he is unmatch in terms of ability and will be unfair to the new guy replacing him.
You man utd fans must move forward, look forward, no player can play for a club forever. Age will catch up eventually, and new players will step into his shoes no doubt. I used to hear people say, Man Utd can never find another player like Bryan Robson or Cantona whom got so much ability and influence. But look who did they find? Keane.
Keane is gone, sad thing even for a person like me who dont support Man Utd, but rest assure someone will eventually come and fill his shoes. Maybe that guy wont have the same influence as him, but I am sure he will offer something else instead. Plus you guys dont have to keep comparing him with other players.
Each player has his own strengths and weakness, to criticise other players just to praise Keane to high heavens is also the same as those arrogant Chelsea fans that we come to hate of. Reserve some space in everything you say and learn to appreciate and respect other great players too.
For now we can only look back and think back of the great memories of his time at Man Utd. -

but seriously, this is a club which needs big bad bastards to be their captain... else they're not going to do anything properly..
they are run by a big bad bastard in Funguson, they had Kung-fu King Cantona, they had Keane... when they were at their best... the "nice guys" (who weren't that nice) didn't really move the club that well..
so really, they have to find a person who is a gangster at heart to fill in those shoes... -
The natural replacement is in the team already.. one and only #14... Alan Smith
He has the grit and agression to succeed in Keane's role.
Just give him more time to familiarise with the position, he should be fine.
Scholes and Fletcher will be his side kick central partners for the time being until united manage to fish out some better replacements.
And for the time being, Smith-Scholes-Fletcher would be a B grade version of Makelele-Lampard-Essien

But I prefer Smithy as an out-and-out centre forward. Won't forget his two goals in six minutes against Sheffield Wednesday in 1999 when he was still a lad at Leeds.
Wayne Rooney reminds me of Gazza when he plays. Why isn't he in a similar position? -
well, when eric cantona left man u in 97, man u won the treble in 99 wasnt it.
the squad is full of young players, but man u got 2 young gems in rooney and ronaldo. hope tt fletcher fulfils his potential and smith adapting to his role well.
and pls give smith time to adapt to his role, cos its not his fault tt he play in this role. he just starting in this role this season, so give him a bit of time to adapt to the midfield role vacated by keane, hope he do well there.
anyway there are many players in the market, with ballack free at end of season, papa dioup not a bad player, diarra from lyon. owen hargreaves from bayern and so on. worse to worse buy back nicky butt lar lol -
