$$$ is the only issue. without money, who wana play well for singapore? Li Jia Wei got over $200K by winning a medal... EPL players get paid this amt in a matter of weeks... not medals or trophies.Originally posted by BillyBong:I dunno abt the rest of you guys but the foreign talent scheme really makes me feel ashamed....
The right way to go is for SSC to get full govt backing to offer careers to budding talents to go professional when they're young.
The current pay is shitty (S-League is one example), the support sucks and the sports organisation spend more time bickering over internal politics (SAAA's sob sob story of Loh Lin Kok vs the rest), rather then focus on the sportsmen.
The Singapore Sports School is the right direction. The govt needs to offer the full financial support and develop this further. Swimming has and should remain a foreign-talent-free sport.
Gov is smart... purposely warp this sports system one...Originally posted by charlize:How warped has our country become?
Sometimes competition too strong and we can't beat them. That is why if we are to go outside of SEA Games, we will lose very badly. Not meeting personal best........ many people set records themselves and never break it.Originally posted by BillyBong:After Joycelin Yeo's Bronze in the 100m butterfly at the Asian games, our swimmers have failed to make any headway.
Our olympics showing in the last 2 outings have been mediocre at best, with national swimmers failing to even meet their personal bests.
With swimming designated a key sport by the SCC for the last decade of so and every facility made available, one can even say our swimmers are spoilt for choice. Are we then lacking a professional training programme or a really world class coach?
Ang Peng Siong and David Lim have done much to improve the scene but it seems they have hit a stagnation point - SEA games. Anything more regional and our swimmers falter.
Or perhaps the mindset of our swimmers is still too focused on books and academics and ultimately many potential youths decline this sporting route?
It doesn't matter that we are small; just look at our population: 4 mil and climbing...Originally posted by mach10:and then again, singapore is a small country. so we should concentrate our energy in the corporate society, get into the World Level in terms of other areas like finance and influence. just let the foreign talents do the sports.![]()
Yeah, the name certainly looks the part but as she was born in SG, then she remains a SG citizen regardless....unless the parents rejected citizenship?Originally posted by charlize:If I am not mistaken, FTs have even been recruited into Singapore's swimming team at the current SEA games to beef up the squad.
I think it's a Chinese girl formerly from PRC.
Nope, I think she was born in China.Originally posted by BillyBong:Yeah, the name certainly looks the part but as she was born in SG, then she remains a SG citizen regardless....unless the parents rejected citizenship?
