You can only say that liverpool were out played/outclass in the goalscoring dept at least, liverpool certainly did not take their chances when they have them,while Benifica only had 2 shot on goal? and scored both of them

Liverpool paid the price for their VERY POOR finishing.
When you don't score goals, you don't win matches. Thats what happened.
To be honest, Benfica put out a very professional performance over 2 legs. Congrats to them! -

Being a Liverpool fan is sad to see my team out of Champions League but Benfica does deserved to go through.

Too bad for Liverpool. I was hoping they can at least thrash Benfica with 4 5 goals.
Question 1: Why rest Hyppia on the bench?
Question 2: Why play Morientes in the first 11?
I would say Liverpool is wise for not getting Owen. He is good, no doubt. But he can only play half of the season, other half injured, really not worth for 17m.
But I agree Liverpool need a good finisher. Maybe Defoe?
Anyway, now Liverpool, Chelsea, together with Man U, all can sqeeze their balls at home together while watching Arsenal playing for the next stage. -

Steven Gerrard has set his Liverpool team-mates the challenge of overcoming their Champions League heartbreak to make sure they are back in the competition next season.
The Reds' defence of their crown ended against Benfica on Wednesday night as they failed to overturn a 1-0 first leg deficit and crashed to a 2-0 defeat on the night, despite creating a host of first half chances.
Gerrard admits their failure to score an early goal ultimately proved costly, but he insists there's no time to dwell on the disappointing defeat with a crucial league game to come at Arsenal this weekend.
"The fans were superb tonight and got behind us - but when you are 1-0 down it is important to get a goal," he said.
"We created two or three chances in the first 20 minutes - and when they don't go in and they score you start to worry.
"Good luck to them, but it is very frustrating. We never took our chances - we could not put them away.
"It is a lack of confidence, and I think we need to work on it - extra shooting sessions in training, I think.
"We need to pick ourselves up. The FA cup becomes even more important now; we need a trophy.
"And of course we want to finish the league season strongly because we want to be back in Europe again next year. That's the aim."

Good work by Benfica, again this match exposed liverpool's poor finishing. Benfica totally deserved to win.
Good sportsmanship by Gerrard by congratulating benfica and admitting his own team's weakness.

The Liverpool manager couldn't hide his disappointment but wanted to thank the Reds supporters for their magnificent support for the team.
"We are really disappointed but if you analyse the game we created good chances but just couldn't score," reasoned Benitez.
"The first 20 minutes we started with a good tempo and were better than Benfica but you need to score. We didn't and Benfica got more into the game and played good counter attacks and defended well.
"As well as not being able to score we then made a mistake in defence and when they scored it changed everything. We couldn't control the midfield and Benfica did a good job. The second goal at the end didn't matter really.
"We have the best supporters in the world and they were fantastic once again and we tried until the end for them, but as I said we just couldn't score.
"We now have to look to the next game against Arsenal and concentrate on the Premiership and FA Cup."
concentrate on the Premiership and FA Cup is the main issue now for Liverpool. -

I support no club, but only hate Man U and Real Madrid. Why? Because they are so fuking lousy, only know how to make jokes. The fans also, always behave like monkeys.
