Look at the determination and mental strength of this guy and after all the years of trying, to win an event this big, wire-to-wire, local born, mostly self-supported, etc....
If you play golf, you will know how hard it is to win. Even to make the cut is already so tough. Some critics even say "big names" are missing, what you guys are talking about? Dougherty , Jyoti and Thaworn are not big names?
When a swimmer won a Gold in Asian meet last week, I don't feel proud at all.
Don't get me wrong, I am not saying that is easy. That is not easy, but I just don't feel proud.
To those who were at the 18th green (or saw it live on TV) when Mardan par and won, you can see what this guy and his family went through to realise this dream.
Let's look at how we can fly our Singapore flag proudly and give fund to those who really need help to achieve their dreams.
Sportsman of the Year ? He should be the Sports Person of the Year at least. -
agreed... not taking away anything from the swimmers who are well funded,to do what he did at his age is something special... there is enough local talent to achieve these... truly a moment for all singaporeans to celebrate

I am more looking at funding of athletes who want to do well but lack the necessary resources.
It's like a scholar who goes overseas with fully paid tuition fees and allowances. Did well, join a company and get promoted real fast. Well, again, it's not "easy" to do all this, but if you compare this guy to a farmer who achieve the same status in that company, who do you feel more proud for? If this farmer is funded like the scholar, will he achieve even more?
So, the message I want to put across is to help the farmer who really wants to do well. As to how many farmers are there, I don't know. And if the farmer is local born, that will be a nice bonus. -

Of course i will get occasionally annoyed that institutions which champion sports like FAS are taken for a ride and conned into giving foreigners like Agu Casmir citizenship.
