Singapore strong force in Badminton
Singapore staked its claim as the leader of Pool B with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Jersey.
Aamir Ghaffar of England named Singapore as the team to beat. "We could win gold. Gold and silver will certainly be between us and Singapore," he said.
Players must win just two sets to claim the match. Singapore's strong form was evident throughout every match with their players showing focus and outstanding skill.
SingaporeÂ’s Hendra Wijaya and Fan Liu were untroubled by JerseyÂ’s Gavin Carter and Lucy Burns, taking the Mixed Doubles match 21-11, 21-4.
Good court work and smart play saw SingaporeÂ’s Kendrick Lee comfortably won his Men's Singles match against JerseyÂ’s Clive Dunford 21-6 21-6.
Solenn Pasturel of Jersey forced No.8 womenÂ’s seed Aiying Xing of Singapore to turn on the power in the Women's Singles in one of the closest matches of the tie 21-13 21-7.
SingaporeÂ’s Ronald Susilo continued his good form after returning to top
competition after injury. With partner Hendrick Saputra, the pair cruised through their match against JerseyÂ’s Gavin Carter and Clive Dunford in the Men's Doubles, winning 21-9, 21-7.
The Singaporean WomenÂ’s Doubles team of Yanmei Jiang and Yujia Li was
untroubled by JerseyÂ’s Elizabeth Cann and Lucy Burns, winning 21-11, 21-6. -
Table Tennis preliminary round results
Jamaica fought to victory over competitor Fiji in the preliminary round of the Men's Table Tennis Teams match at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatics Centre (MSAC).
Against all expectations the sixth seeded team from Fiji put up a great fight against Jamaica. Fourth seeded Jamaica, proved the stronger team in the end, claiming a 3-1 victory over their competitors.
Gavin Hylton (Jamaica), Nigel Webb (Jamaica) and Darryl Strachan (Jamaica) defeated competitors Qi Wang (Fiji), Richel Sen (Fiji) and Rikesh Padarath (Fiji) in the gruelling four-rubber match.
Sri Lanka claimed an easy victory over Kenya. Fourth-seeded Sri Lanka, the favourites for the match, triumphed over sixth-seeded Kenya, winning every game, rubber and finally, the match.
Meanwhile the action was fast and the tension was exhilarating on the show courts with a strongly contested match between Pakistan and Guyana. Pakistan led the way in the first rubber with Guyana taking the second.
A hotly contested showdown between Matthew Khan (Guyana) and Kashif Razzaq (Pakistan) in the third saw a vigilant effort from both teams and the final victory going to Guyana with 3-2.
The clash between the Caribbean Islands went to four matches after a comeback from Kevin Farley (Barbados) in the third. The team from Trinidad and Tobago outlasted Barbados to win 4-1.
The favourites, Singapore, led by Jason Ho comfortably surged through to the next round after beating the team from Malawi 3-0.
The dynamic English trio, Andrew Rushton, Andrew Baggaley and Paul Drinkhall breezed through after easily defeating Tuvalu in straight sets with 3- 0. Indika Prasa (Sri Lanka), Thilina Piyadasa (Sri Lanka) and Gihan Liyanage (Sri Lanka), defeated competitors Anthony Ringui (Kenya), Fahd Daim (Kenya) and Victor Ouko (Kenya) in a 3-0 victory. -
Spinning and smashing to win
In only its second appearance at the Commonwealth Games, competition in the Table Tennis events is proving to be fierce, with many winners at Manchester returning to defend their titles.
The Singapore Women's team, a hot favourite, was a force to be reckoned with, defeating the New Zealand team 3-0 in a fast and furious clash.
The match saw the world's number three, Jia Wei Li, challenged early and taken to four games by spirited New Zealander Yang Jiang, who won the first game 11-9.
In the Nigeria versus Sri Lanka match, Ganiyat Ogundele (NGR) was surprisingly taken to five games by Ruhansi Wijekoon (SRI), but won the fifth game easily to take the match 11-2.
Meanwhile, Canada showed its team's dominance after comfortably accounting for Uganda 3-0. The class of Mo Zhang overshadowed her opponent and inspired the team to go on and win convincingly.
In their match against Fijian the experienced Malaysian team, headed by Lee Wei Beh, was evident after a convincing 3-0 victory. Beh was confident in her opening match and showed signs of what she has to offer in upcoming matches.
Wales' Naomi Owen, Bethan Daunton and Siwan Davies won their games respectively, beating Mauritius 3-0.
England opened its campaign with a resounding victory over Vanuatu. England's Joanna Parker, Kelly Sibley and Georgina Walker each won their games against Vanuatu's Priscila Tommy, Anolyn Lulu and Kerry Mok respectively, carrying the team to a 3-0 victory.
In the menÂ’s draw, Singapore enters as slight favourite over defending champion England.
India and Nigeria are also favoured to make the semi-finals, while Australia, New Zealand, Wales and Canada are teams to watch.
Recent results in the menÂ’s team event have seen Singapore defeat Trinidad & Tobago 3-0, a repeat of their earlier victory over Fiji. South Africa has opened its campaign with a 3-0 victory over Vanuatu. -
Here only monday got start to show commonwealth games, before that have to watch m'sians in action on TV1

Badminton heads into Quarter Finals
Badminton gets into the serious competition on Day 4, as the Quarter Finals start this morning with a line up of Malaysia playing Australia, Singapore and India going head-to-head, Canada taking on England and New Zealand opposed to Sri Lanka.
On court 1, host nation Australia has a mammoth task ahead of it. Malaysia has not yet been extended in any of its matches, and with its versatile line up it doesnÂ’t appear to be changing anytime soon.
Australian Stuart Brehaut faces the ultimate test in the singles, where he will play world number 2 in Chong Wei Lee. Tania Luiz will test herself against Mew Chew Wong, and Ashley Brehaut and Travis Denney will try to upset Kien Keat Koo and Chong Ming Chan.
The task ahead of the Mixed and WomenÂ’s Doubles Pairs are equally daunting.
Singapore, which has yet to drop a rubber, will play an India smarting from its defeat by England. India went very close in two of its matches with the number two side, but will have to take another step up to really challenge in this tie.
The Mixed Doubles will be first on Court 2, where Singapore pair Hendri Saputra and Lu Yujia face IndiaÂ’s Vallyaveetil Diju and Jwala Gutta. This will be a real tough challenge for the India.
England and Canada also start with the Mixed Doubles and will play on Court 3. Canada thrive on confidence and they will need all itÂ’s resilience in the face of the English team. England has experience throughout its line up, with eight players returning after the Manchester games to represent the country again at Melbourne 2006 commonwealth Games.
Simon Archer, in his last games campaign will play the MenÂ’s Singles, with Robert Milroy his opponent.
On Court 4, New Zealand and Sri Lanka should produce a close encounter, with New Zealand the marginal favourites after its demolition of Australia.
Winners of the Quarter Final matches will go into the Semi Finals this evening. The winner of the Malaysia – Australia match will face New Zealand or Sri Lanka, and Singapore or India will play against either England or Canada. -
woo hoo! Li Jia Wei and Ronald Susilo are both in the quarter finals. Funny though, Susilo's marital status is married but Li Jia Wei's is single..

well, our men's badminton lost... to INDIA..
really a joke. India is renowned for Cricket, tennis, and their bollywood. but no offense, but we lost to them..
Singapore’s Ronald Susilo spoke about their surprise loss to India saying "We're disappointed. We shouldn't have lost. We probably underestimated our opponents and that's why we lost. We've tried our best. We'll have to go back and see where the flaws are and try to improve for next time."
Can you take that reason??

I believe same as carrot, there must be stick. if they expect to do well, come back and earn $$$, then if they don't perform, we should shrink their fundings.

managed to see a match of Table Tennis between Australia and NZL, 5 members on each team were all China rejects. Same as Singapore.
So for me, nothing to shout about, just that we got the better rejects only.
once other countries get better rejects, they will thrash us.

I thought it was a bit disappointing that the Men's Table tennis team did not bring home the gold. I guess mentally, we stil have a long way to go before we can credit ourselves with the mental toughness and never-say-die attitude.
Taking a 2 game lead into the final and then throwing it all away was a bit of a let-down... -
