Singapore could be the next country to host a grand prix, according to reports in southeast Asia.
Magazine 'Today' rejuvenated speculation that the island, situated south of Malaysia, could stage a Monaco-like race in 2008.
The publication quoted Bernie Ecclestone as saying that he would 'positively try to make (a Singapore GP) happen'.
About a year ago, the F1 supremo ruled out the race because the calendar was already full.
But 75-year-old Ecclestone, after successfully writing a 20-race clause into the 2008 regulations, now says: ''My advice is that if somebody in Singapore is interested and wants to be the promoter ... they should contact me and we can start talking about ... what we can do.
''Maybe we can squeeze one more (race) in Asia.''
Responding to Bernie's comments, Singapore sports council boss Oon Jin Teik said hosting F1 is 'expensive' but would 'bring good returns'.
He also added: ''I have not met Mr Ecclestone but would be interested to have a chat with him.'' -

Maybe we are just to catch up with M'sia. I think a Grand Pirx will boost all the SG racers opportunities to go international.
For the fans, how cool is to withness a solid F1 Ferrari car in front of you man.
Today, today reported that sports council of M'sia thinks that it wouldn't be wise for Singapore to host a Grand Prix as it would means that the race for the 2 countries' Grand Prix will be back to back. Well... so what ? Isn't it better for the fans ? Or are they scared that the fans would prefer Singapore instead in the future ? ... haha...
They also claims that they had only make even after this year's race since the first race in 1999. I think they are trying to scare us about how long you need to get your money back. Well... if we are hosting a Grand Prix, we only could afford a street Grand Prix. So the money to build a track wouldn't be as great as what M'sia had spent.
The tourism will sure be boosted way up man.
I hope the government would miss this chance again. Grab it PAP...

If I am not wrong, singapore is using tuas area to set up a racing track, but grade 3. Grade 1 is for GP. so we won't have a grand prix here in SGP.
so no need to go sepang.
no need to hear stories about people being robbed in johor, getting sick of these news. -
Is it just me or is the government just trying to squeeze in anything and everything onto this small little island of ours?

A few years ago , when MM Lee K.Y . brought up the Grand Prix issue in his interview with CNA , after that some organisers and the related government body has thus came out with a blue-print in the construction of a Grand Prix venue ...... and now the construction has already started , in fact , there was a simple ground-opening ceremony at Tuas South area .
The Venue is at Tuas South Ave 9 , a plot near the Tuas Incinerator , near Tuas checkpoint , overseeing Pasir Gudang area .
