At a gala ceremony in London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday evening, the Reds captain beat off competition from Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Thierry Henry, John Terry and Joe Cole to land the top honour.
The award finishes off a sensational weekend for Gerrard after he helped Liverpool into the FA Cup final with a 2-1 victory against Chelsea at Old Trafford on Saturday.
With 19 goals to his name, Gerrard currently sits at the top of the goalscoring charts at Anfield and has played an inspirational role in the Reds' securing Champions League football for next season with three games to spare.
Manchester United's Wayne Rooney won the Young Player of the Year award.
Previous PFA Players of the Year: 1996: Les Ferdinand (Newcastle), 1997: Alan Shearer (Newcastle), 1998: Dennis Bergkamp (Arsenal), 1999: David Ginola (Tottenham), 2000: Roy Keane (Manchester Utd), 2001: Teddy Sheringham (Manchester Utd), 2002: Ruud van Nistelrooy (Manchester Utd), 2003: Thierry Henry (Arsenal), 2004: Thierry Henry (Arsenal), 2005: John Terry (Chelsea).

Why does Gerrald and not Henry who is being named for the Player of the Year? No offense to Pool fans but dont you agree that Gerrald was not consistent in this season anyway and has only 8 EPL goals to his name. This is deifnately not his best season sia. And what has Liverpool achieved this season with him? Only the F.A cup final. Its not as this is their treble season or something
If you wan a midfielder I thought Lampard will be a better choice instead with 16 goals.
Henry practically carry the whole Arsenal Team on his shoulder. Did the ones who voted actually how he merorised us with his dribling and goals scoring ability. The Top Scorer in EPL since 2003 and without a doubt this season too. A pity Loca Toni of Italy scored a incredible 28 goals so far this season. With Eto 24 goals and Henry 23 goals, i guess Henry will not be be able to get the golden boot award in Europe this season.
For goodness sake, if u score 3 times more than EPL player of the year and you are overlook, i wonder how u can win...
Roodney is the Young Player of the Year. I was hoping Fabregas will win but i guess Roodney prob has that edge due to the agreesiveness.
A midfielder doesnt mean he must score more to be called a good midfielder. Lampard cannot defend like gerrard does. Gerrard is more of a CM and lampard more of AM. Sometimes cannot compare goals or assist to see whos better.
Gerrard can hold and can take free role
aiyah this discusion wont end wan
each fan sure say that one good, this one not ar
