French subs steal Euro crown
Substitute David Trezeguet scored the golden-goal winner as France stole a 2-1 victory over Italy to add the European Championship to their world crown in Rotterdam tonight. All seemed lost for Roger Lemerre's side as the Italians, deep in injury time, deservedly led 1-0 through Marco Delvecchio's 55th-minute volley. But a last-gasp strike from substitute Sylvain Wiltord took the game into extra-time before striker Trezeguet smashed in Robert Pires' cross to finish the Euro 2000 final.

Does France deserve to win??? I think not. Italy was the one who was playing the more enterprising football, with excellent pieces of defending and creative attacks. What can I say, for that last moment, sheeesh, just that last moment......

I am extremely disappointed with the holding power of Azzuris(Italians)... they should have won the game before extra time started.

completely stunned...of all the teams in the tournament, Italy got the best defence and yet the kanna caught napping in the last thirty seconds!!!!..somehow, i feel that one golden rule in soccer, simple yet always forgotten, is to 'play to the whistle'..the italian thought its all over, that's why they day dream...poor Toldo, he knew he could have save the shot, that's why he covered his face in dispair...& the two misses by Del Piero is the turning point...its seems that no one can just kill off France!!!

Damn the azzuris.... they kicked my team out... now its their turn to suffer...
for their pathetic performance in the semis, they deserve to lose the finals... at least france played entertaining football...
so glad france did it, even though I don't support them... Italy is usually my 2nd team for Int'l football, but no longer so after they kicked Holland out...
