English Press: Mourinho Wants Benitez's Anfield Job
The Sunday Express, the self-styled "World's Greatest Newspaper", has declared Jose Mourinho a serious candidate for the Liverpool job.
Rafael Benitez, the current incumbent, is under increasing pressure thanks to difficult starts both domestically and on the European stage, with past glories such as a Champions League win seemingly not enough to guarantee his tenure.
As such, Mourinho, who is eager for a return to management, is said to be watching the situation with interest.
The paper quotes a 'source in Portugal' as saying, "There's no question Liverpool is a club Jose would like to manage."
Jose has in the past said that he's "like to come back later" to the Premiership, but also added that he had his sights set on an Italian club.
As such, an immediate return to the English game may seem an unlikely prospect. Yet there are factors that could tip the balance towards an Anfield coup.
Liverpool remain one of England's biggest clubs in terms of transfer potential; they are unquestionably "Big Four" material and have recent pedigree in the continental game.
They're arguably a fair slice bigger than Valencia, too, whom he expressed no interest in managing despite a recent vacancy at the Mestalla.
Whether Benitez can weather the current storm may play a huge part in proceedings, too, but above all, Mourinho is said to be keeping tabs on the goings-on at Anfield.
