Singapore Rugby League

Hi fellow Singaporeans. I have lived in Australia for many years now and have really taken to the sport of Rugby League. Some of you might have seen it on TV before. It is a very fast and exciting game. Rugby League sometimes gets confused with Rugby Union but they are totally different.
Anyway, there is a group of people trying to bring Rugby League to Singapore. They are trying to start a national team and then start a domestic competition over in Singapore. If you know of any ex-pats that live in Singapore who come from England/NZ/Australia who have played Rugby League before could you let them know about joining the Singapore Rugby League team. Where abouts are you based at the moment? I have recieved some good feedback. The Singapore Rugby League will get a website up very shortly. I'll post the address when it's up.

... i wouldn't miss the grand final mate ... would've got to the panthers leagues club if i could get in ... there was a massive crowd and some got there as early as 9am ... after the final whistle there were fireworks, fans walking down the street chanting and waving flags (going to the leagues club to welcome the team), cars driving past horning n all ... unbelievable atmosphere mate ... was there a telecast in sg? ... i've watched the gf abt 5 times now and i'll be getting the dvd too ...
... i didn't have a team before this but i said to myself if the panthers got into the semis they'll be my team ... i like the roosters too cos one of my mates a rooster fan ...
... did you watch the state of origin this year? ... the state of origin this year was also a great series ... one of the best state of origin games ever played according to the commentators ...
... so it's been better than expected 'rookie season' for me ...
... yup definitely keep me posted ... i dunno how well it'll go with singaporeans in terms of taking up the sport because its a full contact sport but i certainly hope it takes off ... keep it up ...

Sounds like the Penrith community really got behind there team. I was at the Grand Final mate. I was sitting with all the Roosters supporters even though I was going for Penrith. Penrith deserve there Grand Final vistory. They played awesome. I watched all 3 State Of Origin games. The 3rd game was unbelieveable. Qld played brilliant.
The website is nearly ready to launch. We are still after more players that qualify to play for Singapore. I have some from the UK and Australia. Hopefully the Singapore Rugby League can get the support of the Singapore community as we are representing the nation as a whole.
Hopefully Rugby League will take off in Singapore. With the high amounts of ex-pats living there and hopefully some locals taking the game up we should have a bright future.
Well good luck to your mighty Panthers when they take on Bradford Bulls for the World Club Challenge. -

We are still on the lookout for any eligible players. This being if you were born in Singapore have a parent/grandparent born there or have lived there for at least 3 years.

... yes, the community is very much behind the team ... even before we were the minor premiers ... that's another huge factor that persuaded me to support the panthers ...
... i'd say it's been a very successful season for nrl ... hopefully we'll see more of the same next season ... can't wait for the next season to start ... in the meantime i'll juz have to settle for the ashes tests as well as soccer ...
... as for rl in sg, prob we'll have to look at introducing it at primary or secondary sch level in the future ... juz a thought ...

Hey everybody. The Singapore Rugby League are looking for team name suggestions. If you would like to suggest a team name for the Singapore Rugby League feel free to post it here or at our website at www.singaporerugbyleague.com .
Some names come up so far are the Singapore Orchids, Singapore Marlins, Singapore Sunbirds and a few others. Thankyou for supporting Singapore sport. -
