I think for sports games ,
countries goes according to name of the Continent / 'continental region' (when
including islands outside the continent like Britain is under Europe Continental region)
they were defined in -
'Middle East' is only the western/layman name for
one of the sub-regions of ASIA continent known as West Asia, hence West Asian (mid-east) nations call their games West Asian Games, not 'Mid-east' Games,
Similarly, East Asian nations
don't call their games Far East Games despite
the fact that 'Far East' is the common/westernised name for East Asia.East Asian nations and territories have a regional game called
East Asian Games,
only held a few times only , history not as long as SE Asian Games - with
nations / areas like China, Mongolia, Taiwan, Japan, Koreas, Tibet etc. taking part.
