Because firstly, LTA let NEL get OHLE because it is underground and cannot be seen but if overground very unsightly.Secondly SMRT want third rail,not OHLE so that's not LTA descision

@ First point: It's correct, but it's not the answer I'm finding~
@ Second: How did they (LTA) know SMRT is going to win the tender back then, and how did they (Alstom) know what to use for the electrification? They started construction first before bidding, like the case in Downtown Line now.

For the second point , when it started construction , it dosen't mean they build the tracks together , it is only the tunnelling works first then after tendering then only build the tracks like the CCL .

Then why not Downtown Line uses third rail and not OHLE? Does this mean SMRT is going to win the tender for DTL and not SBS Transit? The DTL trains are currently being built as I write this post, yet how do they know they're using third rail and not OHLE? Even this line is fully underground.

I honestly think that this is just a preference. OHLE and 3rd rail have their pros and cons. 3rd Rail is much easier to maintain since it's at the floor of the tunnel, but OHLE may last longer since the friction between the pantograph and the OHLE is much lesser than as of the 3rd Rail and the railshoe, in my opinion.3rd Rail make overground sections look neater as you won't see anything dangling in the air (LOL) and OHLE allows higher speeds of travel and journeys.

Preference is the second reason, but that's also not what I'm looking for~

As you can see this ripped out station is currently the route I am developing.That is why I can't give updates.Its having problems.Anybody could guess whos route is this?

Then maybe the cost + experiment new ideas? Come on NEL 6 train cars need high power but EWL / NSL got above ground so slighting / appearence first priority than high power.

Experiments could be done outside Singapore.
Power, might have got to do with it, not sure about this though.

I'll make a guess. I'm guessing that there's some kind of power plant in Punggol and the OHLE can carry more power and serves as a power line to the other districts at the same time. -

AFAIK, there is a PG intake or so in Harbourfront slidings and possibly the end of Punggol tracks. I know there is a station box which might be below than NEL or possibly B1 (Which is out of bounds for now, where it can be a station box or a linkway to that station box located in B3 or so)
I believe NEL can be extended to North Shore / Coast Line, since Pulau Ubin or Punggol Islands (Coney Island?) does not sound practical.

Because, when DTL starts, trains come from KCDEP, and they can only use 3rd rail.
