Baby powder pulled off China shelves not sold in Singapore
SINGAPORE: Singapore's health authorities said that a baby powder
taken off the shelves in China for suspected asbestos contamination is
not imported into the island state.
Wire reports said sales of the NUK brand of powder manufactured by German company MAPA had been suspended in China.
According to China's quarantine agency website, South Korean
authorities also reportedly tested 30 brands of baby powder and found
12 containing the carcinogen, asbestos, including the NUK baby powder.
In Singapore, the Health and Sciences Authority (HSA) said the
company representing NUK baby products said it does not import the baby
powder into the country. No other company said it is bringing in the
powder.
Under HSA's cosmetic notification database, dealers are required to
notify it before importing any cosmetic product for sale here.
