Singapore does not import Chinese beef soup stock banned by South Korea
Singapore's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority or A-V-A says it does not import any beef stock from China used in soups.
The agency was responding to queries from 938LIVE following reports that South Korea has banned the import of all Chinese beef stock widely used in soups.
South Korea's food ministry said it found Clenbuterol, in 13 of 17 shipments of beef stock from China checked last week.
Clenbuterol can cause a rapid pulse, stomachache, and various heart-related disorders.
Under medical supervision, Clenbuterol can be used to treat asthma.
South Korea has also ordered a recall of the beef stock which arrived since April 6, and will continue to check on remaining shipments.
It added that of the some 830 tonnes of Chinese beef stock imported this year, more than half have already been consumed.
