A new treatment option will soon be available in Singapore for women experiencing severe Premenstrual Syndrome or PMS.
It comes in the form of a pill which has just been approved by the Health Sciences Authority in Singapore.
The low dose pill, a world’s first, treats a severe and debilitating form of PMS known as Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder or PMDD.
PMDD affects 5 percent of women who have PMS.
Dr Tan Thiam Chye of the Obstetrics & Gynaecological Society of Singapore, says the symptoms of PMDD “can be so bad that the affected women cannot even carry on with their daily activities of life.”
Previously the condition is managed through taking anti-depressants and lifestyle modifications.
Two other pluses of the pill -- it can be used to treat moderate acne and also act as a contraceptive.
